One of the trailers before the movie looked pretty good. A horror film called "Sting". That's the name of the big spider that's crawling around eating people. Probably low budget, so it almost certainly will be a hit.

Definitely going to see "Abigail" sometime in the next couple of weeks. Swapped out seeing "The Fall Guy" for what everybody already knows is a horror-comedy starring a pre-teen vampire.

This idea was already done in both "Interview with the Vampire" and "Let the Right One In", but they were deathly serious in their vampires. "Abigail" likes to play with her food.

Watched Late Night with the Devil. I give it some originality points....actually enjoyed watching it.

So far for the year only 4 films have passed the 100 M mark domestically (Dune, Kung Fu Panda, Godzilla vs. Kong and Ghostbusters) and the last one only barely. Only Dune has passed 200 M. It is up to almost 280 M as we speak.

Wonder if there will be less hits in 2024 ?

Last year 25 films grossed more than 100 M and 8 of them passed 200 M.

We will see.

Fall Guy, perhaps, if Gosling can marshal that lingering Barbie buzz.

Just tired of every Rock n Roll Biopic having the same sanitary and imaginary story. Give us their real lives and make it interesting.

So I got to see "Abigail" today and, while I thought it good at times, I would have to say that it's not something you couldn't enjoy just as much at home. Because the trailer already gives away the big revelation going in, you have to settle for smaller surprises along the way. Some don't work, plus a fair amount of setup time is wasted in the beginning before we get to what we already know going in. From there things move fast because it's not like there is a large cast here to run through. The ending hit as much of a peak as you could expect.

So it's meant to be gory and funny, and the parts are better than the whole sum. This is one of those movies that I can say I kind of liked, while still feeling that it could of or should of been better.

I will say that normally I do not take to films with child actors in lead roles, but Alisha Weir did a good job of playing both the innocent and the you know what. She made it look like Abigail was enjoying herself and that was half the battle.

The Fall Guy made a mere 28 M this weekend. So much for it being a summer blockbuster.

Did the studio think it would pull in some lingering fanbase? More likely that it made people content to wait for it on their own TVs with their already paid-up subscriptions.

I read on line that the studios were hoping that The Fall Guy was going to the first hit of the summer season, as no other major films are being released in May other than the next Planet of the Apes, The Garfield Movie (for kids), and Furiosa (Mad Max). No Marvel or Indiana Jones this May.

Aside from 2020 when we had to deal with COVID, this might be the quietest May since the early 1990s.

It was a weird choice for a 2024 movie whether redoing "Fall Guy" or just having a stuntman be the hero of a movie. It doesn't seem like something that would interest the kids (anyone under 30). I want to see it but I watched that show. It made Markie Post famous before "Night Court." I guess the studio thought Ryan Gosling, fresh from "Barbie" super-success, could carry it.

I don't know...maybe it's one of those movies that gains a little steam and still does okay.

I heard Lee Majors does a cameo but he doesn't sing the old theme song which I still sing parts of sometimes.

I saw it today, and it was pretty good, though I suspect big fans of Gosling in particular will like it more than the average movie goer. It delivers on "truth in advertising" as it was laden with stunts from pretty much start to finish and a lot of them were practical (as opposed to CGI-generated) which they demonstrated during the closing credits.

The classic TV show theme song (with some lyric updates) does play over the end credits, but is sung by Blake Shelton instead of Gosling, who probably should've been the one to sing it. I did enjoy that show as a kid, but I haven't seen any of it in a long, long time. (Note: you have to stay after the credits to see Lee Majors & Heather Thomas).
