Have you seen "Open Range"? It's pretty good too.

No, not familiar with that one. I'll try to find it, thanks.

"Quiet Place: Day One" was pretty good.
Between that and "Inside Out 2" still playing gangbusters, Costner's movie had no shot at drawing crowds, but I'll definitely check it out once it hits one of the platforms we have.

I recently saw him (and Diane Lane) in "Let Him Go" from 2020, and that one was a winner. He should probably make more movies like that. It's currently streaming on Peacock Plus.

I think I read that Costner's latest movie is one of a planned four movies series all on the same subject in the 1800s American West. Not sure that will happen now...

James Cameron complex Big Grin

This particular review describes my thoughts when I heard he was planning to drag this out.

"Its stately pace never feels boring, so it doesn't feel like it should have been shorter. But it also doesn't really work on its own.... And it feels impossible to judge this film, because, in some weird way, it doesn't feel like anything has really happened yet."

Open Range was a great movie but he made it for a reasonable $22M and it only made $68M which works for that budget.

As we got to the multiplex, I suggested the Costner epic instead of "Quiet Place Day One" and the "please don't be serious" look was immediately deployed. And she likes Kevin Costner!

3 hour Westerns without a proper ending are asking an awful lot of the modern attendee.

8 films have now grossed more than 100 M domestically this year.

Only 2 have made it to 200 M or more--Inside Out and Dune.

I have not forgot how bad "Beverly Hills Cop 3" was, it is one of the very worst films I have seen.

The good news is that "Axel F" is much better than "Beverly Hills Cop 3". The less good news is that it lacks any sort of originality since it played like a homage to 1 and 2. I watched it today and was neither impressed nor disappointed. It was just a way to spend the time while waiting for the fireworks to start.

Besides Murphy there is Reinhold, Ashton, Pinchot and Reiser in their same old characters. All are older and worse for the wear, but it kind of kept the banter down a bit, which was good. The tone between gun battles and car crashes was supposed to be more mature and reflective. Gordon-Levitt looked like he was trying to give a performance in his new role. Kevin Bacon was coasting as the villain.

It is good enough to make it to the top on Netflix. I'm not sure how well it would have done in theatres, but it is at least up to the standard of the new "Bad Boys". Actual fans of the series, I never cared that much, will be more pleased with it.

Looks like the Minions will easily crush $100M this weekend.

Despicable Me 4 made 122 M domestically in 5 days. I am sure that by next weekend it will easily pass 200 M and will be the # 3 film of the year, behind Inside Out 2 and Dune 2.

Watched it yesterday....feel pretty much the same. Toss in a daughter character with a strained relation to a cop and the rest of the script is already written.
We better get used to watching unrealistically old cops in action as Lethal Weapon 5 is in development. Guess we will be seeing more of this as Hollywood will be used to manipulate perceptions in raising the social security age limits. At least Judge Reinhold looked happy to be working. Wink

Judge Reinhold can keep his career going by alternating between the Beverly Hills Cop films (4 movies) and the Tim Allen "Santa Clause" films (3 of those)

Hard to believe that he is now 67 years old.

In only the one week it's been out, "Axel F" got 41 million views on Netflix. Would it have done that much business if in theatres? I would say not that much, but certainly some. From "Top Gun", to "Indiana Jones", to "Bad Boys" to "Wolverine", we think that if the movie heroes of our youth can still do it, so can we.

Fat chance. Big Grin

Inside Out 2 will pass Super Mario Bros this week to become the # 2 animated film of all time domestically. It needs 35 M more to pass Incredibles 2

Wow, it will take the animated top spot soon as it's still on 3,800 screens. This is a Toy Story-like winner where franchises are concerned, because Part 3 is now also guaranteed to make a lot of money.

To get into the top 10 USA all-time, it needs to get to 653m to replace "Jurassic World" at #10. Barbie fell just short of that last year.

New Nick Cage horror flick Longlegs cranks out at double its production budget.

Audiences seem to be split down the middle between loving or hating it. I thought the promotional campaign was effective.

Fly Me to the Moon fails to launch with a $10M box office on a $100M budget. It's an interesting idea but seems more like a Lifetime or Hallmark thing.

Incredibles 2 is the all-time highest grossing animated film? I had no idea.

That's because horror always finds some audience and Cage is now a low rent actor who brings name recognition and promises some bizarre performance to low budget productions.

"Longlegs" is brutal and humorless and full of nonsense. That decides who likes it or not.

Inside Out 2 will probably pass 600 M domestically in another week. Nothing else is even close.

Despicable Me 4 will no doubt pass Dune 2 to become the # 2 film of the year this weekend.

Last year, only Barbie made it to 600 M and it ended up at 636. Can Inside Out beat that ?

Domestically, yes. Incredibles 2 grossed 608 M in the U.S. and Inside Out 2 is now up to about 580 M.

Worldwide, Inside Out 2 is # 3 behind the 2019 Lion King film and Frozen 2.
