Yeah, Alden Ehrenreich is a working actor and it's not that he's bad at it, but he won't be the star again. "Solo" bombed out and it wasn't his fault, but it doesn't matter. What's Ezra Miller doing these days? And he really didn't help "The Flash" at all. As far as "Rogue One" goes, I agree with you. Didn't like it because of the ending. Even with the preordained outcome, it isn't history. They could have done way better by the characters. However the film made money and satisfied those "serious" Star Wars fans, which "Solo" didn't do on either front.

I agree with this too, but I would even apply it to Star Wars, as I never was much of a fan after the first trilogy, 4 - 6. Think about it. Star Wars is not fun for any of the characters. In between a few victories that are eventually erased, they lead miserable lives, and then they die. I hated the last batch when Han, Luke and Leia took their turn dying in each film. Is that not killing off all your heroes and how is that fun? Superheroes must also be flawed and miserable and eventually sacrificed. No fun for you! This stuff isn't history. It isn't fact. I like happy endings. Sue me!

Yeah, and they all LOVE the series Andor. I watched two episodes and bounced, it wasn't for me. And now it's lauded as the greatest thing in Star Wars. I'm glad someone enjoys it, there's something for everyone. My brother-in-law tried to hype me up on Andor telling me "It's nothing like Star Wars." Uhhh, I want lots of Star Wars in my Star Wars!!
Fair points. Rogue One was dark and sad the whole time, the characters were all dark and sad. In the OT you had C-3PO and R2-D2 offering some levity, the droid in Rogue One was, you guessed it, dark and sad, and pretty condescending. I'm all for flaws, but give me someone or something to root for. I was glad nobody made it out of Rogue One.

On the top $ list for 2026 an indie movie called "Obsession" hasn't been mentioned yet, but it's smoking all the major competition. It was made for just $750,000 and is currently up to 84M worldwide. That is a percentage profit that no big budget studio release can hope to achieve. "Obsession" sounds like a fairly standard horror picture with a Twight Zone type story. You know, the "be careful what you wish for" moral. Guess the idea looks fresh with lots of cheap gore.

Some are predicting that OBSESSION may actually make more money than The Mandalorian this weekend. If that happens, it's pretty embarrassing that a horror film does better than a Star Wars movie !

Dollar for dollar, horror films always do well. That's why they are the choice of fledging producers and directors with no money. When good word of mouth gets around, it's almost like a cult thing. And when they started with that "lost footage" gimmick, the fad really took off. I used to be a big fan of horror films, but I guess either my taste has changed or they have changed. I don't mind gore in the right spots, but unrelenting gore is numbing and boring. Also, very dark endings, or endings that just set up the next sequel, make the whole exercise pointless. I still can't figure out why anyone wants to see dumb stuff like "Late Night with the Devil". Even "Weapons", as well done and interesting as it was, made no sense in the end. Now "Sinners" I really enjoyed, and yet they took great pains to not call it a vampire movie. I think I'd rather have an old-fashioned monster and forget the supernatural, mystic plots altogether. However the younger generations really seem to believe in those devils and demons stories, which makes me worry about what they are doing in their spare time.

I liked the Mandalorian but it dropped 70 percent this weekend making only 25 M domestically. That means by year's end it won't even be one of the Top 15 films of the year in terms of money made.

The big, little movie this week is another indie horror called "Backrooms". It was made for under $10M and looks to go off between $80M - $90M. These are the types of films that will make all the money on small budgets. Star Wars is over. People are finally beginning to admit that most of the main movies were not good and trying to start new franchises with marginal characters has really bled it dry. Marvel and DC are at risk of doing the same thing. I think they all deserve it for being both lazy and greedy, but these cheap and wacky horror films are not a great substitute either. I spoke to a friend who saw "Backrooms" with his adult son. He has always been a big horror buff. He said it was the worst movie he ever saw and had no idea what it was supposed to be about, even after his son tried to explain it to him. For the record, it's about crossing into other dimensions and his son liked it. Different generational ideas no doubt.

I haven't seen the Mandalorian yet. The third trilogy was a retread though it had its moments. That Obi Wan Kenobi show could have been great but it was terrible. I thought Ahsoka was okay. It seems like only Jon Favreau has a sense of how to make good Star Wars. I wish he had been at the helm of the third trilogy. What idiot thought of making a Star Wars movie and then making sure that Luke, Leia, Han, and Chewbacca were not in even one scene together while the actors were all still alive?

It's sort of like Indiana Jones. Does anyone want another movie or a TV show after the last one ? I think that bringing it back with a different actor playing Indy just would not work. I remember the Young Indy series in the early 1990s that failed.

"Late Night" was OK. "Weapons" was my favorite movie since "No Country for Old Men". I thought once the reveal happened the end made very clear sense, unsure what confused you? "Sinners" was fine, but didn't deserve all the Oscars glory it received. I don't know how it got Best Original Screenplay when all it did was use the "From Dusk Til Dawn" formula. Everyone gushed over Michael B Jordan playing two characters, but they were basically the same character.
If it starred Harrison Ford, absolutely. I thought Dial of Destiny was awesome. Now given his age that's pretty much impossible, but he's the only one who could do Indy right.

Regarding Indy, what I was trying to suggest is that they shouldn't bring him back in another film or TV show with someone else playing him, as it won't work. Haven't they had 3 different actresses playing Tomb Raider, so far ? Not sure why they keep trying to bring that franchise back
