Oh wow! Just read about Chris. One from my collection that he did for Breygent. ____________________ Just because it's rare doesn't mean it's valuable.

Bassist Dusty Hill from ZZ Top has passed away, age 72. He, Frank Beard, and Billy Gibbons got together in 1970. They are the longest running group with an unchanged line up in the history of popular music.

Oh man, that's rough. ZZ Top was already a big deal in the 70's but they hit the next level of stardom in the 80's with those videos supporting their albums, "Eliminator" and "Afterburner." Who can forget "Gimme All Your Lovin,'" "Legs," "Sharp Dressed Man," "TV Dinners," and "Sleeping Bag." They got heavy play on MTV. Here's a card from the Italian edition of the "Smash Hits" set (Panini, 1987). This message has been edited. Last edited by: catskilleagle,

Child actress of the 1930s Jane Withers has died, at age 95. You may know her from her Comet cleanser commercials in the 1970s, where she played "Josephine the plumber."

Folk singer Nanci Griffith has died, age 68, of unannounced causes. Probably her most famous song was "From a Distance," which was covered by Bette Midler.

Famed international action film star Shinichi "Sonny" Chiba died at age 82 from Covid on August 19th. In addition to the popular series of 1970's Street Fighter" movies he starred in, Chiba was later tapped to play master swordmaker Hattori Hanzo in "Kill Bill", the Quentin Tarentino homage/tribute to that era's films. ____________________ Everywhere around this burg they're running out of verbs, adverbs, and adjectives. Charlie Watts was the Rolling Stones drummer longer than I've been alive. He was still drumming at the age of 78 for 2-hour-plus concerts until about two years ago. That's a workout for a young man. I didn't start listening to records until 1981 (when their "Tattoo You" album was out) so I didn't really who Charlie Watts was until then. I saw him in Stones videos on MTV. He wasn't a flashy guy and often seemed almost impassive but he always delivered whatever quiet or driving beat that was integral to the song. I'm very sorry to hear he's gone. Here's the #9 card from the "Lord Neilson's Star Cards" set (1967).

With Charlie Watts gone, how can the Stones keep on going ? Jagger is 78, Keith Richards is almost 78, Ron Wood is 74. Maybe bring back Bill Wyman. He turns a spry 85 in October.

I hear they have another album in the works! And TATTOO YOU is coming out in October, remastered with some new bells & whistles.

Very sad. The Stones are one of my all time favorite rock & roll bands.

Jagger has health issues, Richards got that embalmed look a long time ago and baby Wood isn't all that better. However their ability to keep going and touring and just staying together as a unit along with Watts is remarkable. Maybe some other groups did it, but not with as much success or as little swapping out of members. I don't know that this won't be the reason to officially retire, they were going to have to shut down eventually. But they could still put out new music, even if its reworked old music. They probably have a year's worth of unreleased tapes for another 20 albums if they want to use it. Sorry to hear about Charlie, but he really left a legacy to remember and influenced generations of drummers.

That's what they said after Brian Jones left the group and died -- over 50 years ago.

They just said they are going to turn shows into Charlie Watts tributes, so I guess they are auditioning drummers as we speak. The Rolling Stones won't miss a beat (pun intended).
