When I started the Obituaries thread, it was with the intention that posts would be about people who were connected to nonsports cards in some way, and that posts would link to cards of those who had passed on. It has evolved into a list of celebrities who have died, many of whom seem to have no particular connection to the hobby.

So here is a new thread, which hopefully will include only folks who appear on a card.

Merle Haggard died today.

Erik Bauersfeld, who provided the voice for Admiral Ackbar in The Empire Strike Back ("It's a Trap!"), died Sunday.

Patty Duke Astin, actress and mother of Sean Astin, died Mar 29.

Peter Brown, an actor who was active mainly from the 1950s to the 1970s, died on March 21. He starred in "Lawman", a western TV show from 1958 - 1962.

Phife Dawg, a founding member of the rap group A Tribe Called Quest, died March 22.

Robert Horton, who was on Wagon Train for five years ending in 1962, died on March 9.

Former First Lady Nancy Reagan passed away March 6.

George Kennedy, longtime Hollywood character actor (Airport, Cool Hand Luke, Police Squad!) died on Feb 28.

Country Music singer Sonny James passed away on Feb 22.

Gareth Thomas of Blake's 7 fame died of heart failure on 13th April 2016 aged 71.

That's sad to hear. I did used to enjoy watching Blake's 7, I even rewatched it from start to finish on DVD not so long ago.

William Schallert just passed away, at the age of 93. His first IMDB credit was 1947 and his last was 2014 -- that's 67 years! (and not counting his theater work from even earlier). He appeared on numerous trading cards: Star Trek (TOS and DS9), Twilight Zone, Six Million Dollar Man.

He was one of those actors that just popped up everywhere, once you learned to recognize him.

Alan Young, voice of Uncle Scrooge, best friend in The Time Machine, and star of Mr. Ed, died.

It has been reported Burt Kwouk has died aged 85.

Noel Neill, who appeared as Lois Lane in the 1948 Kirk Alyn Superman film, and the 1950s George Reeves TV Series, and played cameos in the 1978 Christopher Reeve film, the 2006 Brandon Routh film, and the 1990s Superboy TV show, has passed.

Robin Hardy, author and director of the original 1973 version of the film 'The Wicker Man' passed away on July 1st. To the best of my knowledge, he has never appeared on a non-sport trading card or had an autograph in a set. However, he has a place in this thread as his best known work resulted in a complete card set being released based entirely on his film 'The Wicker Man'.

I'm awfully sad to post this one.

Jack Davis has just passed away. He was one of the best artists working for Topps during the 1960s (I'd say the best, YMMV). He worked at EC comics during the 1950s, including on Mad Magazine from when it was a comic book. He was a great commercial artist -- you can spot his line work on movie posters (original Bad News Bears, for example), record album covers, magazine covers (dozens of TV Guide issues), magazine ads, etc. I met him once at a comic book convention in Atlanta in the 1970s and he was a perfect gentleman as well (and did a wonderful sketch for me).

Sad news indeed to lose an all-time great.
His influence is simply incalculable.
