Some of those now hard to find Topps cards from the 2005 Star Wars Shop series have gone for big bucks on ebay. A # 1 of Wedge sold for $ 44.00.

We've talked about prices paid for rare cards in this thread. Here's a 36-card lot that someone paid too much for - $199.99 for 36 Arby's Hanna-Barbera cards (sold 6-3-25). Yes, you get the full 30-card set plus 6 duplicates in one shot. However, the singles tend to go for around $3-4 each and you can usually find lot of 3-6 cards for about a buck a piece. If assembling this set is what you aim to do, you should be able to do it for around $30-40 if you're not in a big hurry. Maybe that collector just had to have the whole set in one shot at that moment.

I noticed this sale because I was checking to see if the cards were still selling in the same range as they have been. I was at a flea market yesterday. One seller had about half the set in a big box of mixed base cards, vending machine cards, and promos. I couldn't remember which ones I was missing so I bought 5 and got them for a buck a piece. It turned out I already had 4 of them. Oh well.

While looking at sold listings of various "Lost in Space" cards on Ebay, I saw that a "Lost in Space" (Inkworks, 1997) 3-card strip sold for $40 on Ebay but when you click on the listing, you learn that the listing was actually ended because the strip was no longer available. It might mean that the seller sold it elsewhere or maybe misplaced it. If so, Ebay shouldn't list it as a sale.

Anyway, if that strip sold even close to $40 anywhere, that would the most I've ever seen that go for. Years ago, it was a $3-5 card because Suncoast stores everywhere had a stack of them near the registers so they were easy to find secondhand if you didn't get one yourself.

I have not been following the sales of this card.
But I have noticed there have been high prices being asked for it recently.
Wich have made me wonder why mabey people just grabbed them then just discarded them later on and they have become rare.

I see a DC vs Marvel Mirage card (Fleer/Skybox, 1995) sold for $325 after 3 bids on 4-25-25.

Another one ended at $255 after 13 bids 6-4-25.

Here's a surprising auction end. It's the Simpsons card from the 17-card "Homeruns" promo set (Geffen/DGC, undated but it was 1990). The set has been hard-to-find if you're looking for it. I got lucky finding it years ago while looking for something else. The set came in a small box. There's room in the box for more cards but I've never seen more than 17 of them and I've seen 3-4 sets for sale in the past 20-25 years. They have sold for $15-30 as I recall.

Anyway, in this auction the Simpsons card alone went for $500 as a BIN on May 2.

I went down the page to see if other Homeruns cards had sold. The Guns N' Roses card sold as a BIN for $39.99 and the Peter Gabriel card went for $14.99. All three were by the same seller.

Farther down the page is a listing for a "Homeruns" audio cassette which I've never seen before. It's a collection of songs from around 1989 that were hits for the Geffen record company. The cassette insert has the same artwork as the box with the cards. I wonder if the box with the cards also had the cassette inside - something to give out at the company and/or send to record stores to promote the cassette. That might account for the extra space in the card box though it would have been a tight fit.

A Grendel 4-card promo set (Dark Horse, 1992) sold for $75 on June 13. That's the most I've seen that sell for. As you can see, the backs form a puzzle.

A "Hollywood Walk of Fame" (Starline, 1991) #77 Ann-Margret prototype sold for $35 on June 9. It was a $15-20 card in the 2000's and one doesn't come up for sale a lot so it's been going for more in recent years.

It's marked "PROTOTYPE" across the back.

Another Star Trek Generations #0 promo sold for $125 on May 29.

That must be an error. There are a whole bunch of those Cat promos on ebay now for $ 3 and 4 each.

A Marvel Universe IV Fearmaster production sample sold as a Best Offer for somewhere less than $219.95 so maybe $175-200? It has worn corners so we can see why the seller was willing to take an offer already below what the samples have gone for. It's still a desirable card.

That seems to be a good price for the Fearmaster.

I started chasing after the 9 samples back in the mid-1990s when they first surfaced. Those were the pre-ebay days when you could find them in the promo card boxes at comic book stores for $ 5 or 10. For reasons unknown, back in the 1990s, it seems as if the only ones you'd come across were the 7 samples for the villains.

I never saw the Spider-Man 2099 show up until the late 2010s when a few appeared on ebay

The first time I saw the Punisher 2099 was in 2023.

It is interesting that for 30 years no one ever saw a Punisher (at least I hadn't) and then over the past 1 1/2 years, at least 4 have shown up on ebay. How is that possible? Hopefully they are real !

That does sound cheap. I would not be concerned with fakes considering they are blank backs. Even if someone could replicate the sticker (not exactly an advanced sticker), I don’t know how they would have a card with the front being the Punisher red foil and back blank- only time I’ve seen that is with these prototypes. So pretty confident these are all legit.

I have seen on ebay over the years PLENTY of the blank backed Marvel 2099 sample foils without the stickers. I didn't chase after those, as I suspected that they were cut from the blank backed sheet, which I have also seen. I, myself, only collected the ones with the stickers.

A few years ago, someone I know picked up all 3 of the Marvel 2099 3 card sheets from the Capitol Con, the ones sealed in the screw down plastic cases, for $ 1,500.00. The dealer would only sell them as a set.

That sounds about right, $500ish per for those Capital city red foil 2099 triptychs.

In a thread on another forum, there was a discussion on whether there were 1200 total of those made (adding up all 3 versions), or 1200 of each made, and I don’t think that was ever figured out for certain. A duplicate serial number carrying over to two versions would immediately settle the question, but after tracking some serial numbers I don’t think we found one (granted...small sample). What was odd also is all the serial numbers that seem to come up are higher…like above 400 or so (can’t remember the exact number)..which is odd because at random youd think 1 in 3 would be less than that.

On the topic of red foil 2099s…this is not a promo, but I collect uncut sheets, and coincidently found this red foil sheet this past week, after years of searching. Just needs framing now.

While I can imagine there could be 1200 of each out there somewhere, I think it's 1200 total. More of them would've been for sale in the late 90's to 2000's if there had been 3600 available. I bought one at a show and sold it around 2005, I think. At the time, it was a rather rare item for sale. When they started increasing in value, more started appearing for sale but it hasn't been a flood.

I figure some collectors took the sheet out of the clear block to slip it in a binder page so it could be stored with the rest of the set. They didn't like anything that doesn't fit in a page. They're kicking themselves now that a sheet in the block can go for $500.
