I see a Star Wars Vehicles P2 (1997) sold for $250 on Dec 26 as a BIN, but then on Feb 12, another one graded PSA 8 didn't get a bid for a penny less. The first one still had that peel-away protector coating but the other didn't. Would someone consider the card that had the peel-away removed as less desirable? It's the same card and maybe back in 1997, some collectors thought they should remove thinking about how it might age and/or leave a residue if left on too long.
It's interesting that a Field of Dreams (Universal Pay Television, Inc, 1990) graded PSA 9 (Mint) sold for $125. In the 2000's this was a $15 card at most and I haven't seen it bump up in recent years. Some collectors want only Mint cards and this one might be seen as having a lot of potential with Costner adding the current success of his show, "Yellowstone" to his string of hits across the years.
A Simpsons II B1 promo sold for $67 on Jan 25. It was selling in the $35-50 range last year and less before that. It's not that rare but a lot of people see it as a godd buy.
Looking just at Simpsons II B1 sales, several have sold in the past couple of months in the $55-70 range with one sale at $84.99 and three for less than $25 (one is creased). You could have also found it still sealed in the comic for $69.99 but the cheapest price I've seen sealed or loose was a sealed one for $19.95 (sold Jan 2).This message has been edited. This Simpsons promo came in the comic ? Why would someone spend so much ? I am.sure if you go to one of the major comic websites you can get the comic with the card for $10 or less

There is no answer to this question. It all comes back to the old what is this card worth and the only answer that can ever be is it is worth what the buyer thinks it's worth to him.

Yeah, it's weird. You might even find it in a local comic shop. It's like when you hear people paying $20 or more for a promo you can still get in the current NSU or when Ebayers buy an item without checking to see if a cheaper one is available elsewhere on the site. Some collectors need the new thing right now and don't feel they have time to look around or even think.

A Ghost in the Shell promo card (JPP Amada, 1995) sold for $53.77 with just one bid on Dec 2 last year. The card wasn't super common when it was new but you could find it easily for years for $2-3 (I paid just a buck for one) before rising a little in value to maybe $3-5 around 15 years ago. I think it was going for $5-10 more recently so this sale surprises me. The card front has a nice refractor effect that shows better in person.
I saw a Hero Masterfoil: Aliens/Predator gold foil 2-card promo sheet sell for $69.99 on 6-4-23. This is that one some dealers received from Hero Illustrated magazine back in 1993. I think it was one of those things where if a dealer ordered a certain number of issues, you got it as a bonus with your order.
The 3-card promo set for Hammer Horror: A Tribute (Market Square Prod., Inc, 1994) sold for $39.99 on 5-23-23. You don't see this one come up for sale often. Only the promo set from Market Square exists as a regular set was never made. I think most of the Hammer Horror card collectors already have it. I've seen sellers try to get $100 or more based on the rarity but that seemed high. This price seems about right.
An unopened Jurassic Park Ames promo pack sold for $89.99 on June 7. That might be a record for that - not sure. That's the pack with the exclusive JP3-A promo (other cards are just random base cards from the regular packs). A pack went for $50 last year. This message has been edited. I noticed a Ballad of Dr. Richardson 6-card set sold for $49.99 on April 20. This is a rather obscure set unless you're a Paul Pope fan or longtime promo collector. Singles went for $1-2 15-20 years ago. Sets were seldom seen but not in big demand so when you did find a set, it was maybe just $10-12 at most. I hadn't seen one for sale in years when I stumbled upon this sale.
Yes, I did. I'm not sure we're allowed to name sellers here or it might appear we are promoting a business of a friend even after a given item has sold. It was an interesting sale worth noting in my opinion whoever the seller.
