I just updated my webpage. Since it's about me, and has my picture, I thought I'd post it here. It's not a card listing.....just about me. So people I've traded with in the past or in the future can see who they're trading with. Enjoy Smile

Being new to Card Talk (and now that I've read up on most of you) I thought I'd chime in with some info on me... As my username suggest, I'm Paul Russell, currently residing in Montreal, Canada with my better half and two children (2 year old daughter and one month old son). I grew up in Vancouver and Victoria, BC -- having quit med school to start my current "career." I'm a media writer (DVD info, reviews, et al) and have been for six years, and have recently started branching out as a DVD Producer.

Since I work for myself, the hours tend to be long and never-ending, but I do get to work from home (allowing me to spend as much time as possible with my family whom I love and adore). My better half, Shorty (don't ask), graciously puts up with my obsessive/compulsive habits with nary a complaint.

I got back into non-sport card collecting relatively recently (about when Decipher lose the license to Star Wars, which was my main hobby). I've now jumped back in with both feet and am buying boxes, literally, by the case load. I tend to collect cards for movies or shows that I like -- something that poses a bit of a problem because I generally don't see much TV until it makes it way to DVD (for instance, I've just started collecting the three Angel seasons).

I thank my grandparents and mother for getting me into non-sport cards when I was a wee lad. Starting off with the original Star Wars releases (notice a pattern forming?), then on to such titles as E.T. (for which I'm still annoyed with my mother for BURNING all my doubles). I got out of non-sport cards with around '97 largely thanks to the impossibility of creating a master set of Star Wars Finest (if I can't have 'em all, I don't want 'em).

I'm glad to have found Card Talk. Virtually all of my friends work in "Hollywood" and don't see things quite the same way. I still get taunted that I like to collect autographs. One would think after working in the entertainment industry for so many years the novelty would have worn off, but nooooo... I particularly enjoy taking select cards with me on business trips to LA and Vancouver to get friends to sign them for me (some of the comments on the cards are hilarious, albeit not fit for print).

So there you have it...you know more about me than most.

Regards,

Paul Russell

- Glad to finally see you Dru'S_Garden. Wink

- Thanks for the biography, Paul. And don't feel too bad. My mom made me give all my comic and cards away. And anything that wasn't, was taken away and given to kids of her friends, co-workers, etc or shredded and tossed. This wouldn't been as painful IF it wasn't for the fact that I had kept them in MINT condition (highly unusual for kids in the 70's/80's) and way before collectors went card protector crazy in the 90's. (Heck, some of the card protector supply companies used some of the designs I'd came up with and mentioned to them.)
And the cards/comic would have paid for my college education (as well as many of the other kids on the block Frown )

Hi, Paul!! Welcome to Card Talk! I'm in the Vancouver area (Langley to be specific) and had been to med school. Were you at UBC? Which year were you in before your "break out"?

I collected comic books while in university but had to quit because of med school. I still have all of my books because my parents left them alone!! ( I have the original print run books of the first Star Wars comic books. Wink) I used to hang out a lot at "The Comicshop" on West Fourth Ave & Arbutus. Did you ever go there? I also belonged to the first few years of the Vancouver Comicbook Club (VCBC!) and helped to run a few comic-cons at the Collingwood Community Centre on Victoria Drive.

These days, I'm collecting non-sports cards because of my love of the show Stargate SG-1. After the first set was produced, I was hooked onto trading cards. I had a few from the 1990's, mostly Disney and Star Trek. But I had no idea about the rest of non-sports cards until the Stargate SG-1 cards came out.

Enjoy this board! I do! Have fun collecting! Big Grin

Happy Stargating!

Thanks for the welcome Big Grin ... Yeah, I was at UBC for just under a year after transferring from UVIC. Whilst attending university I didn't do too much card collecting (the usual lack of funds situation). Most of my collecting was done at either Yellowjacket or Curious in Victoria (it wasn't until a few weeks ago I learned about Warp9Cards -- aren't they too cool for school??).

Regards,

Paul Russell

Ohhhhhh...I like this guy...I really like this guy. Luv You Make note; this ones a keeper LOL.

Ah the legendary Comic Book row. "Curious" is now across the street from where it used to be, on the same block with "Legends" and Yellowjacket". If parking wasn't such a pain in that area I might drop in and visit down there more often (it's tourist season in downtown Victoria right now!). I was never really close to the guys down at "Curious"; the staff seemed to change a lot and no one ever looked really familiar down there. Grant is still running "Legends" and "Yellowjacket" has been taken over by a long time card/comic collector (and customer of ours lol) named Ed Bitner.

Thank you Tamara...that makes me as happy as an...um... Elephant

I must admit, I'm shocked I never heard of your store before. Looking at your address, I lived within walking distance (Quadra and Tolmie). I'll have to drop by the next time I'm out visiting!

I still lived in Vic when Curious moved (not like the new location made any difference). Legends never impressed me much so I didn't go in there all too often. I'm glad to hear Yellowjacket has a new owner. I have some hilarious stories I could tell you about those guys *LOL*

Hi, my name's Andrew, I'm 24, single and live in London. I'm looking for a nice...

Oh! Sorry .. wrong discussion board Wink

Try again:

OK, I've been posting reguarly for about a month now (after lurking for a year or so), so I suppose introductions are in order.

I've collected cards (in various forms) for years, but I now strictly only collect Buffy and Angel trading cards. I say "strictly" because I have to stop myself starting to collect new stuff otherwise I would have no money.

I remember the first cards I collected were Battlestar Galactica (which I think still live in my mother's loft somewhere) and Garbage Pail Kids (sadly, I don't know where they've gone, but I hear there's a new set on the way or something).

When I'm not spending my easily-earned cash on Buffy cards, I run a Buffy web site (which was featured in Don Norton's column in NSU last year).

I work as a web developer in London during the day, which is really just an excuse to surf the web. Strangely enough, none of my "regular" friends collect cards so I rarely get to talk with them about my hobby. Frown Hopefully the ladies and gents on this board will be a great substitute.

I attend most of the London fairs (even if there's nothing I need to pick up) as I know some of the dealers and it's good to catch up. So if anyone ever wants to meet up, just give me a shout.

Outside of the card interest, I enjoy movies (especially horror, but just recently I've had a more pronounced interest in Japanese cinema), DVDs and "the web" (well, it is my job).

I can't think of anything else of note to mention, so I'll love ya and leave ya.

Andrew.

Andrew, it's good to finally "meet" you. I really enjoy your site!

What's there to tell.... to be part of one of the best rated subjects of NSU's Card Talk.

I earn a living as salaryadministrator and network security officer at a Dutch Shipping compagny. Happily married for nearly 10 years out of the 40 years I walk on this planet.

I discovered a 'the voyage home' set way back in 1989 at a local retailer in Amsterdam.... and got the fever afterwards....... first doing a lot of business with American dealers that send out catalogs (like Intergalactic trading and Barrington Square)...... that's what I call the before internet period. Later came Ebay and all the rest, which really boost my collection.

Being also active in the Dutch Star Trek fanclub, they call me the biggest collector of ST Cards in Europ (it's them who say so, I never did myself)
but I do always know the answers when a question in the fanclub comes about ST trading cards.

My collection goes over 8.100 different cards and that's without about a couple of thousands FPG fantasy cards and that's not all because my wife is in Disney on a small scale. A lot of people here in the Netherlands don't understand what I'm collecting but every on this board knows..... and that's the main reason I'm here and hope to stay for long!

Anyone out there in for a game...... oke.... let's
play Fizzbin on Star Trek cards!!!!!!

Fizzbin,
Out of interest, which Dutch Shipping company? I used to work for P&O Nedlloyd (though in London, in the IT department), and had friends in Rotterdam (and elsewhere in Holland!)

Hi. Wavey I thought I had better introduce myself.

I am Paul Buckton, Online I go by the name of Boldygone and have been supporting my hobby on eBay by this name for several years now.

I am in the UK, currently living in a small town in Bedfordshire called Flitwick (the W is silent).

I am unable to go-out to work as for the last 7 years have had to stay at home to care for my Wife, Jean, who is Blind and needs a wheelchair due to a back injury. I also care for my daughter, Julie, who was born with Cerebral Palsey. I, mself am an Insulin dependant Diabetic so we are all VERY happy to have been born in a Country which has the NHS.

Anyway, enough about that.

I have been a fan of Star Trek since I was nine when TOS was 1st aired in England on the BBC. I still remember watching it each week with my Father. I avidly collected ALL the Videos and Noe the DVDs of all subsequent series.

I also try to collect Star Trek Auto pics and for a while collected Star Trek plates.

I started collecting Star Trek CCG cards around 96 and remember pulling the Future Enterprise from one of my 1st packs and since then I have been hooked. It didn't take long to notice the trading card sets coming out from Skybox and lapped all that I could find up. I was living in Northampton at the time, which had a Sc-Fi, Comic & Card shop. We have been living in Flitwick for 4 years now and a long way from any specialist shops. So eBay, JKLM, and the Internet in general have been a tremendous help in maintaining my collection ( and helping me part with my money)

I've stopped buying the CCGs now and only collect Trading cards now. Obviously I collect all the Star Trek sets, thanks to STCARDGEEK, Lynne Stewart, and I have 'expanded' to include Farscape, Red Dwarf and Terminator cards.

I am pleased to have joined this forum and am extra pleased to find several friends that I have had the pleasure of trading with already here.

LLAP

I'm amazed at how International our group has become. Maybe we can hear from some people in Africa and Asia too!
Well, my name is Albert and I have 3 great kids and a wife who(God bless her) tolerates.... so far, my addiction (see hobby). I started collecting cards in 1992 when my daughter was born and haven't looked back since. I started specializing in promo cards almost immediately and used to scour the Florida countryside and anywhere else I would go (that's a joke)for card shops and garage sales for many years. I have accumulated a rather hefty collection of promos over the years numbering in the 10's of thousands. Oh and don't let my Avatar scare you I'm actually very friendly!
I welcome any questions concerning anything to do with promos but please no want lists.

That I introduced myself. As you can see by my secret identity, I am BigD, father to 'lild and husband to H(she hates it when I call her that). In reality my name is Darren, happily married father of one wonderful son. I have a degree in History from the University of Idaho and am contemplating going back to school, but time will tell. My collecting interests vary between sports Eek and various non-sports items. Most times I have to like what the card set is representing before I will buy it, therefore I will be waiting on the Daredevil set until Tuesday when I can see the DVD. My wife is somewhat understanding, but does realize that she will never be able to take the kid out of me, I refuse to grow up!! Enough about me, I figured that I had lurked around long enough. Bad Darren for lurking.... Twak

Hi everybody,

Guess I'm a bit late but my name is Vincent (tough one eh?) I'm 18 years old from Boston, MA. Sophomore at Northeastern University studying Civil Engineering. I started collecting cards when I was 6 years old with Marvel Universe Series 1. My father collected comics AND cards in his day and started me off early. I guess you can say that I am relatively inexperienced to non-sports cards. I never took much interest in any cards outside of comic cards until just recently. I also probably have the smallest collection of anyone on this board. Frown Yup, that's me in a nutshell...

Wait...how'd I get in here? Confused Confused
