My nephew announced to the family that Star Trek debuted on this date in 1966. My brothers and I didn't see an episode until 1975 after it had gone into syndication. I think we watched the animated series right around that time.

When Star Trek debuted, my brother's and my bedtime came halfway through the episode. My mother just WOULD NOT let us stay up that extra half hour. It was not until summer vacation that we could see the other halves.

Yeah, similarly with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I have a lot of the promos but not all of them and I haven't seen a single episode nor the original movie. It must have been on when something else was on but then I was watching a lot less TV in the 90's than in the 70's.

I've picked up a couple of promos here and there in the past 10-12 years but I'm not sure I'll finish that. I had a few of those rarer NSU ones from Season 5 but sold them when they were hot.

Yesterday, I noticed that the Heroes & Icons network was running a Star Trek TOS multi-day marathon with the episodes in order. It's still going today.

That would be Teri Garr of Close Encounters of the Third Kind fame. She was in a few good movies that people would recognize. Tootsie comes to mind.

I know this one, even though I never saw the episode "Assignment Earth". I really enjoyed Teri Garr in everything she did. That woman should have had a great career in comedy or drama, but she got relegated to side kick and ditzy girlfriend roles most of the time. She passed away 2 years ago at 79, but her fans remember her fondly and well.

"Assignment Earth" was meant to be a sort of pilot for another show. The stars were Robert Lansing as Gary Seven and Teri Garr as Roberta Lincoln. April Tatro appeared briefly as the black cat took human form. The show was supposed to be about a time traveler protecting Earth and his human secretary. Garr mentions it in her book and that it would have changed her career if it had been picked up as a series.

Maybe or maybe not, I don't know. Everybody seems to have noticed the cat woman, but not much else. Remember that Star Trek wasn't a great success when it was on first run TV. It only had three seasons, 79 episodes and was off the air by 1969. The network wanted to cancel it even before that. It got more popular years later in syndication and that eventually lead to the other shows and movies, but in the time of this episode the network didn't want another show off of a failing show.

Both Teri Garr and April Tatro at least got to sign certified cards in RA product.

Pluto TV has a ST:TOS channel, runs episodes 24/7.

Cardaddict, I actually did know who the cat was because you showed that second card before - great photo of her, great card.

Who knows. Maybe the Gary Seven show would have been good or maybe not. A time-traveling superspy alien, his human secretary, and a mysterious cat helping people. That sounds like the start of a show to me. They could still do it now.

Oh, that's right. I was doing this from memory and I only recalled Teri from that show. One of my favorites too. My favorite is the The City on the Edge of Forever. Only episode where I felt a strong emotion. Excellently written and perfectly cast with Ms. Collins.

RA has released 2 Star Trek products this year. First "Star Trek Connections", which had a mixture of old and newer, and then "Star Trek Voyager Archives and Inscriptions", which was Voyager. What is down as "Star Trek 60th Anniversary" is still listed in upcoming products as TBA. This card set also looks like it will be a mixture of all the many Star Trek titles.

Now this may seem to be pedantic, but shouldn't the Star Trek 60th Anniversary card set come out in the year of the 60th anniversary of the show, which debuted on Sept. 8th, 1966? Shouldn't they have put that one out already? And if it's scheduled to go out in December 2026, why is it still showing as TBA?

Instead we are waiting on Season 2 of the "House of the Dragon" and a "Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" in Winter 2026. "Twilight Zone", "Doctor Who" and "The Hunger Games" are also TBA. So are we to count 2027 as the anniversary year too? Is it the whole 12-month span that counts as the year?

It just seems to me that "Connections" was the same mixture that will turn up in any all-compassing Star Trek anniversary set and RA has lost the plot by not doing something special, or maybe even on time, in the anniversary year that ends when 2026 does.

Yeah, a 60th anniversary set should have come out by now. That should've been the priority.
