i have these 2 4 card promo strips from comic images. They are from 1992. each one is a 4 card strip. two diffrent versions. One seems to be prism, the other sort of a refractor. can anyone give the real story behind these and if they are rare or common. thank you.

I never realized there was two different ones. I have one or two, somewhere.

To be honest. I have not had great response on these. I do not know why as I have never seen these before elsewhere except for the one person with an asking price of almost $800 on a certain site. Thats for just one. I have both versions and cant even get watchers on it at a fraction of that. Mad
SIDE NOTE: these scans I posted here were done at UPS store, as PDF and the lady who did em cut off the bottom part of the strip. They promised me it would all fit. And they had the nerve to charge me an extra $2.00 for internet useage? I didnt even touch their computers.

LOL, sorry, but $800 is crazy. There's none on ebay right now, but I've seen them cheap around $20. I'm a cheap *******, so I doubt I paid over $10 for the one I have. I'll go see if I can find it to see which one I have.

I just commented on the 4-card strip I have with the "broken glass"/"fractal"/"angles" effect in the "General Promo Talk" section. I'm posting here so that interested collectors can see the related threads at the same time before they start floating apart again as time goes by.

One of the "broken glass" strips sold for $104.99 on 3-23-25.

Another one of those strips sold for somewhere under $119 (so maybe $100?) on August 17. From the image provided, it appears only the Savage Dragon is a "prism" variant (what I would call the "broken glass" variant rather than the "prism" (or horizontal rows) with the others being the regular promo. Maybe it's just the angle of the card under certain lighting that makes it look that way.

Just to answer the original question and in agreement with Tattoox, these were not common but also not in-demand by the late 90's-early 2000's (perhaps the heyday of promo collecting). I didn't pay much for the strip nor the slightly-oversized singles I have - perhaps $10 for the strip and $2-3 per single. At the time, I didn't know about the prism variant or I would have looked for it.

Some collectors didn't like strips like those and cut them up themselves so they could store them in their binders. A few even trimmed them down to standard size to fit a 9-pocket page. I know because I have one. I doubt Comic Images did it because it's the only one I've seen that size.
