I know, it's just one of those things that are factually wrong and you can only warn people so much.

On the bright side, if the sports guys will pay those kinds of prices for those kinds of cards, sell anything you have before the bubble bursts and let them call them whatever they like.

I'll tell you what - I sure wish I liked SpongeBob because I most certainly would have a stash of the cards blowing up right now. I remember considering buying one of the sponge cards and sketch cards at the time just because I thought they were cool, and were only going for $10-$20. Whoops.

I'm looking at some crazy sold prices for South Park promos (Comic Images, 1998):

Promo 1 of 2...$149 (Sept 18); $209.99 (Sept 14); $150 (Sept 13); $199.99 1 bid (Sept 6); $150 (Sept 2); $100 (Sept 11)

Promo 2 of 2...$100 (Sept 12); both for $99.00 (Sept 1). I guess that was the deal.

unnumbered (Another Universe)...sold as a Best Offer for less than $89 (Sept 17)

There were some much lower sales in late July and August ($8-35) - still very high for these cards - but they exploded early this month for some reason. They are said to be rare but they were common. PDE2008 has them as $2 cards. The unnumbered card was less common as I recall but you could find it without too much trouble and it was cheap (maybe $3-5).

People going insane for "Rookie Cards" of ANYTHING right now.
