Thanks Jess, I love that Creature from the black lagoon sticker... Was there anything on the back of those?

The Frank Miller Sin City Card by Dark Horse is also very nice. I think I have that one, yep. Just checked, I do have it in my collection lol but still nice to see them here on CT.

That sticker is blank-backed. With no text on either side, I didn't know where it came from the first time I saw one at a collectibles show. I just happened to see another one years later and the seller knew what it was.

After thinking about what I said in my previous post, I didn't intend to talk anyone out of posting their black & white cards even if they wouldn't be considered "noir." One thing about that is that it's tough to define and some people don't even like the term. Even after people started shooting in color, some artists (film, painting, etc.) still liked black & white for certain projects. Sometimes, they wanted a noirish or a maybe just a stark look they can't get with color.

Here's are two of the X-Stacy promos, the third being the same two as a 2-card uncut panel. It's not really noir/noirish (or is it?). There's not much about the comic that these cards promote. Some comic artists like to work with black & white.

I've never seen the uncut panel.

That's probably a card from the Independent Universe Series 2 set. I say "probably" because it's not in the Allender listing for Series 1 (doesn't have Series 2). There is more than one "Dark Muse" card. I have three different ones and will post them soon.

I don't have a full set of either series - just scattered singles from an oddball lot I bought on Ebay years ago. I remember Aeolus saying he had bought a set back in 2018-2019. Among the cards I have, there are several black & white cards that would fit this thread.

Also, I should tell you that the Independent Universe sets are "gray area" promos in that they promote various independent artists but the sets were sold through Diamond at the time. The artists were sent uncut sheets and singles of their cards and they likely gave out at least some of those (maybe even cut up the sheets), explaining why singles and small lots have come up for sale over the years. Some secondhand/thirdhand sellers might have broken up some sets too.

I see three sellers wanting at least $200, and as much as over $600 for a complete set. Is there something special in those?

Yes Jess, another great offering for this genre. Good Stuff Cards really made great promos in the late 90's. I wonder if any former employees are sitting on bundles of promos, stacked away neatly in a drawer or cupboard somewhere, waiting for the right moment to re-emerge into our folders/boxes..? And, found another candidate, Scrubs In Scrubland, no year mentioned but made by Scrubland Productions as a two postcard set. Pretty cool artwork me thinks... Metal

I would say "Lost In Space Reprint" set of four promo cards falls into the Noir genre. There's robots, alien monsters and a strange new planet depicted on the cards. No year is mentioned or company that made them but they are very nice with the black and white photos and silver foil borders... anyone agree? Wavey

Yeah Adrian, it would be interesting to see if there are any cards or uncut sheets that didn't get released. That Boris Karloff P-1 was only available through a Wrapper mailaway but you can still find it without too much trouble. Maybe the hardest to find Good Stuff promo would be the Boris Karloff P-3

That "Lost in Space Reprint" promo set is an odd one. The regular set has been selling and sometimes for around $100 or more. I have the promo 4-card uncut sheet with no foil and I just noticed that Todd lists it as being serial-numbered but mine isn't. I thought I had another one that was serial-numbered but haven't run across it since reorganizing my collection just over ten years ago.

Years ago, dealer Rod Motonaga had a different one printed as having "Titanium Foil" or something like that. It wasn't that expensive. I haven't seen any of the sheets for sale in a while.

I have just come across a Good Stuff set of 72 cards (if you include the certification and header cards) called "Dwight Frye True Character". The issue was issued in 1998 but I have no idea if promo cards exist. The set consists entirely of black and white images.

regards

John

John,

I don't remember a promo for "Dwight Frye" and don't remember one for another Good Stuff set, "Spaceships of the 1950's." PCE2008 doesn't list one for either of them. They could be out there, though. I haven't seen the one for "Monster Magazine & Fanzine Collector's Guide #2" in years and that came out around the time the "Dwight Frye" set was released so there might have been one. Maybe someone else remembers for sure.

Jess
