The BBC website reports that Ray Cusick who was responsible for designing the Daleks died of heart failure in his sleep on 21st February 2013, he was aged 84 and lived in Horsham, West Sussex.

It appears that as he was a BBC staff designer he would not have received any royalties from the Dalek's commercial success.
