Spider-Mind, to my mind, has been the second greatest superhero for roughly 60 years, topped only by Superman, who had a nearly 25 year head start on him. That said, obviously Superman doesn't translate as well to movie adaptations as does Spider-Man. The result for Supes on the big screen have been a lot more hit and miss, or more accurately, miss and hit. Spider-Man has had only the Garfield misfires and even those two have plenty of fans. Superman's power level makes him a lot harder to sympathize with than Spider-Man, and because he is so powerful, the only way to "threaten" Superman tends to be to threaten the entire planet, galaxy, or even universe. One of Spidey's biggest problems in the comics over the years have concerned him being simply unable to pay his bills.

I don't know. The Parker family home is 20 Ingram Street in Forest Hills, NY. That's one of the better Queens neighborhoods. Some private streets and expensive condos in parts of Forest Hills. He can't have been all that broke.

That address is actually a real location, and the current owner gets lots of Spider-Man fan mail. He says he likes it, but I don't think I would.

Spider-Man is up to 786 M domestically, passing Avatar to become # 4 on the all time list.

THE ODYSSEY has passed 500 M domestically, making it the # 2 film of the year.

TOY STORY 5 is # 3.

Spider-Man is certain to pass its 2021 predecessor this weekend, to become the # 3 highest grossing film of all time, domestically.

The only films ahead of it are 2019's Avengers Endgame and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Went to "Mutiny" yesterday. That's Jason Statham's new actioner. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone other than those who see all his solo films. They are all predictable plots with unbelievable fight scenes and that's his brand.

The interesting thing about this movie is that it got leaked online before its short lived theatrical release. By mistake a clean copy was on Prime for a brief period. My friend told me he saw it somehow on another platform the night before I went to the movies. I think its already being pulled out of some theatres, so don't look for any big box office numbers on this one.

Somebody is going to have to investigate how this happened before one of the year end blockbusters turns up on YouTube first.

Spider Man is # 1 for the fifth week in a row. Up to about 890 M domestically. Not sure if it can pass Star Wars the Force Awakens which is still # 1 all time, having earned 936 M in 2015.

Ridley Scott should just pack it in. He had his hits, but now he is making bomb after bomb. His latest film "The Dog Stars" just opened with an 8M weekend take on a budget that could top off at around 110M. It came in #5 behind "Coyote vs. Acme" and Insidious: Out of the Further", with "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" and "The Odyssey" still holding the weakening top slots.

Scott used to make good movies, but not recently. Since pretty much screwing up the "Alien" franchise by going off on some quasi-spiritual journey that lost me, he has done "The Last Duel". "House of Gucci", "Napoleon", "Gladiator II, and now this one, which may turn out to rank the worst despite its hot star Jacob Elordi.

I'm not sure why anyone thought another post-apocalyptic flu movie was something anybody needed to see again, it was a bestselling book, but that is different. I can tell you a big mistake that they made and this a SPOILER, so don't read further if you are seeing this film.

I almost never agree with anything that Anne Hathaway has to say, but she was correct about one thing when promoting 'The End of Oak Street". In short, she said you can never kill the dog.

So right there, book or no book, Ridley Scott was in trouble.

Didn't he also make some "Get off my lawn" comments complaining about young moviegoers to justify his poor box office, similar to Scorsese?

I also think that the title can make or break a film. THE DOG STARS sounds like one of those 1990s movies involving a kid and his pet

Remember last year this time when the guy who played Elvis did the movie CAUGHT STEALING ? Bad title, and that bombed also.

There is something attached to him like that on the internet, but I don't know exactly what he may have said or when he said it. That he may have blamed something on the audience at some time, sure, why not?

Scott, Scorsese, Spielberg, Coppola, maybe a couple of other icons, they are all getting old. They are all still searching for the meaning of life because you know, even the geniuses can't come up with a good answer for that one. So, they are making these really personal passion projects for their own egos and that's fine, except that they cost 100M - 200M plus. They are not home movies. They need backers, and studios, and large audiences who will pay to see them. Then when not enough people want to see their vision, or not enough people understand what they just saw, it has to be the people's fault.

But there is still always the chance that it will win the Academy Award for Best Picture.

Ridley's brother Tony, may he rest in peace, made one terrible movie after another for decades and the money was there. Ridley will be able to make pretty much any kind of movie until he says he's done.

I think the real problem for a movie like "Dog Stars" is that people don't want to pay for stuff they can get for free. There aren't any real Spider-Men swinging from building to building in New York City, but there is always plenty of war and what-not on the little screens people carry around with them.

To that end, I'm going to see "Coyote Vs. Acme" tomorrow, which is something I didn't think I'd be able to say for a time. I was thrilled when Ketchup Entertainment and some other smaller partners were able to pony up enough money to buy it from Warner Brothers, stopping it from being written off as a total loss for tax purposes, at which point, it could never effectively be viewed by the public.

Ketchup previously distributed another Looney Tunes movie, "The Day The Earth Blew Up" featuring Daffy and Porky and we went to go see that one, too. It remains a real treat to me to see animation of that quality on the big screen.

Ketchup paid Warner Brothers 50 million for the "Coyote Vs. Acme" movie, and it has made almost half of that in ticket sales, which is a good sign. They'll also make some money when the movie is sold digitally, and again when a streaming platform buys it, maybe even some from cable rights.

Hopefully, they'll turn a nice little profit and parlay that into something even bigger. Just look at what A24 has become through a mix of producing their own movies as well as obtaining distribution rights to others. They still have plenty of their arthouse fare, but also some big profit-makers, "The Drama" and "Backrooms" just this year. The recently released "The Invite", by Olivia Wilde, and the upcoming "The Debut", by Jesse Eisenberg, are both high on the prediction boards for Oscar nods.

Distribution is a great way to get in the door, but producing the bulk of their own films must be the ultimate goal for these upstart companies.
