Yeah, I don't know of a groundswell of interest in another "Hocus Pocus" nor "Practical Magic" being made either. The trailer I saw didn't look interesting. I have seen actors/actresses on talk shows say that they are "always asked" if some box office near-break-even of the past is going to get a sequel. It always looks like they are trying to drum up that interest themselves and maybe get a campaign rolling to get them some work. And yeah, did Hocus Pocus 2 already come out? Oh, it did - four years ago. Surprisingly, it did well enough streaming so another sequel might happen.

Do any of the movie buffs in this thread do Letterboxd?

I like to read Entertainment posts and I used to be a movie buff, but not so much anymore. I hadn't heard of Letterboxd, but I googled. Seems like you could start a whole other hobby getting into that platform.

So far I have been able to avoid Facebook, Instagram and Twitter before it was X, so no, I'll just stick to Card Talk as long as it's here. But you may have increased the membership in "a hub for cinephiles and casual viewers alike" by dropping that link. I'm just not social enough for community networks.

But here's a quick tip, "Ready or Not" on Netflix. Very gory, much bad language, and pretty funny in spots. It's may not be for cinephiles, but I liked it.

Internationally, it will remain at # 3 behind AVATAR and AVENGERS: ENDGAME, which are ahead of it by about 350-475 M.

I don't think anyone would have guessed at the beginning of 2026 how successful it would be.

"Avengers Endgame" is getting a re-release in advance of "Avengers Doomsday".
It will have something like 4 extra minutes of footage, so it will increase its overall take to some degree with that.

Well, I do have "superhero fatigue" and I got exhausted just watching the 2:23 minute trailer for "Avengers: Doomsday". It was "there's that one, and there's that and there's that one", and Patrick Stewart droning on about brotherhood. I know it will make a fortune, but there are some 31 named Marvel superheroes in the cast, some of them minor characters. A case of more is more I guess, but the introduction scenes alone will take up half the movie.

Now for "Avengers: Doomsday", they have already scheduled the sequel "Avengers: Secret War" for the next December. So, isn't this just going to be the same as "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Avengers: Endgame"? The first movie will kill most of the Avengers and the second one will bring almost all of them back. These will have the Fantastic Four added and RDJ switched sides. Anything else different?

Well "Jurassic World Rebirth" was a box office hit too, and it is a terrible movie. Big franchises don't require new stories. Remember what the Scream character said about the rules of a sequel. "Sequels suck. The body count is always bigger. The death scenes are always more elaborate. You should never assume the killer is dead."

Oh, and "even legacy characters aren't safe".

Unless there is time travel. You can always undo everything with multi universes and time travel. And that's why watching these Avengers' movies are even more pointless to me. They can make up and re-make anything.

I am sure that "superhero fatigue" was one of the reasons that Supergirl made only 72 M domestically and why there aren't as many Marvel films coming out each year, as there were 3-4 years ago.

The second Superman film is coming next summer. Can't imagine that will be a massive hit. The last one did OK, but seems like they are rushing to get another one out.

Tom Cruise has a 125 M film called "Digger" coming out on October 2, and they are predicting that it may be a flop. Seems like a really bizarre movie.

Have you seen the trailer on TV? He is in strange old man makeup and the scenes they are showing looks like utter Dr. Strangelove garbage. I can not imagine anyone looking at that preview and thinking they want to go see it.

At this point in his career, he should probably stick to action movies. I don't really think he's been in anything else since the 1990s, with rare exceptions. Maybe he's finally losing his mind completely.

The director of "Digger" won two directing Oscars in a row with "Birdman" and "The Revenant", the latter of which also finally got Leonardo DiCaprio the Best Actor Academy Award. Maybe with this one, Tom is shooting for that final honor that eludes him. I'll go see it for sure.
