They need to focus on not spending $200 million to make these movies.

How to Train Your Dragon made 83 M domestically this weekend, much more than Mission Impossible and others debuted at.

That already makes it the 9th highest grossing film of the year, and it is rapidly moving up the charts. Probably be # 5 or 6 by this coming weekend.

Lilo & Stitch is up to 366 M but Minecraft is still number # 1 at 423 M.

The John Wick "Ballerina" has really struggled. Only 41 M to date here in the U.S.

The current Top 10 of 2025 domestically:

(1) Minecraft Movie
(2) Lilo & Stitch
(3) Sinners
(4) Captain America
(5) Thunderbolts
(6) Mission Impossible
(7) Final Destination
(8) How to Train Your Dragon
(9) Dog Man
(10) Snow White

No doubt that Dragon will be moving up the list and ELIO coming this week will do well.

In July, you have SUPERMAN, JURASSIC WORLD, SMURFS and FANTASTIC FOUR.

How to Train Your Dragon is a hit, up to 160 M domestically in 2 weeks. However the Pixar film Elio bombed at only 21 M, the worst ever opening for the company, despite good reviews

Looks like Brad Pitt's F1 is a big hit making at least 85 M this weekend domestically. On the other hand, M3Gan 2.0 made only 30 M

Some websites said that F1 made 85 M domestically this weekend, but now they are saying it only made 55 M. Not sure which is accurate.

Lilo & Stitch is now up to 400 M in the U.S. and can become # 1 for the year if it makes 24 M more to pass Minecraft.

How to Train Your Dragon is now # 4 for the year at 201 M, passing the Marvel films.

Mission Impossible should soon be # 6 when it hits 190 M and passes Thunderbolts.

It probably will, but I don't think the story is strong enough to get repeat viewings. There were too many characters that were name-checked but superfluous to the story. Not a spoiler as such, but Mr. Traffic's flying pod interior looks like the Milano with a paint & trim job.

Jurassic World has made it up to the # 4 position of 2025 domestically. But interestingly Minecraft remains #1 of the year as it is still 10 M ahead of Lilo & Stitch.

Superman made 217 M worldwide this weekend. Reports are that it needs to make over 500 M just to break even and that outside of the U.S. ticket sales weren't that great. We will see.

I dunno...just don't trust Hollywood math. The idea that advertisement and distribution automatically equals double the production budget seems very suspect to me. Especially with all of the consolidation of media enterprises over the past 30 years. Seems like it is all just studios paying themselves for required services.

Superman has moved into the # 9 position for the year, passing Brad Pitt's F1.

Probably will be # 6 for the year by the weekend

Interestingly, the #1 film of 2025 is not one of the summer blockbusters. It's still Minecraft at 424 M.

In 2024, only 2 films made more than 500 M domestically, Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine. In fact, both films made more than 600 M last year

So far in 2025, no films have grossed more than 425 M domestically. Minecraft made it to 424 M.
