Daveigh Chase, known for "Donnie Darko" (2001) and its sequel, the Disney "Lilo & Stitch" films (playing Lilo), "The Ring" (2002), and the "Big Love" TV show, has died at 35.

Seems like her career was going well between 2001 and 2011, but starting in the late 2010s she, unfortunately, got involved with drugs and experienced homelessness, malnutrition, and arrests.

Golden Hollywood actress Ann Blyth has passed away at 98. She had quite a few credits in her time, but her most memorable role was probably as Joan Crawford's daughter in the potboiler "Mildred Pierce".

I remember her better for something different. A wicked little Twight Zone episode called "Queen of the Nile". One of my favorites really, maybe because it has one of those ironic endings. She signed only one card in the premiere Twight Zone edition A5, and I picked it up back when it came out. I didn't actually know that she was still living but, much like her TZ character, she had a long life. RIP Queen.

Blyth had a reputation as a good autograph signer through the mails. I had been intending to get one of her cards from the 1940s and try and get it signed -- I'm not aware of anyone else alive who has cards that old.

I have an Ann Blyth card from the 1950's which I will post when I find it again. I reorganised some of my binders recently but I still have to update my records as to which binder it is in. I have over 60 binders that store cigarette sized cards so sometimes it takes a while to update the records.

I mentioned her passing to my mom. She commented how beautiful she was and that she was in a lot of movies. She didn't know Blyth was in a Twilight Zone episode. She added that she had some movie star cards and she thinks an Ann Blyth was among them, recalling that she got them with some gum in a pack but didn't remember the set title.

I didn't know my mom ever had any cards until today.

Legendary record producer/executive, Clive Davis passed away on June 22 at the age of 94. There's a long list of big name artists spanning several genres that he discovered and/or signed to a record deal. Have you heard of these people?: Tony Orlando, Barry Manilow, Pink Floyd, Sly and the Family Stone, Janis Joplin, Santana, Bruce Springsteen, Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire, Aerosmith, Billy Joel, Blood sweat and Tears, Ace of Base, Whitney Houston, among others.

Before my time, but my mother had some movie star cards from back in the 40's and 50's. At some point I think I saw them in a drawer. As I remember they were oversized and had no real text except for the names. I have no idea what happened to them. I believe she told me once that they were sold in vending type machines in Five and Dime stores like Woolworth's. They cost like pennies to buy, so most of those cards were probably throw out along the way.

That is what makes for truly collectible cards, natural rarity achieved by destruction. Unfortunately, very few people today would even recognize these stars of the golden age, so there is probably little demand and little value in them even if they were kept. Still wish I had them though.
