It will be so sad to see this forum go. It's a shame that everything costs so much nowadays.

I wonder if there is a way to continue it as an archive for cheaper? You know, not have it where you can post anything new, but keep all the older stuff available for reading. I know with podcasts, it's $35 a month to upload 3 hours of new content, but if you put it in "away" mode (or "Legacy mode" or whatever they call it), where no new episodes can be added, but listeners can still hear all the old episodes, that costs much cheaper: just $5 a month! Do you think the NSU forum can offer a legacy option to maintain the old sight (for research purposes) that would be significantly cheaper?

I would be willing to help set up a Kickstarter to keep it going another year. We would set the funding for whatever the actual cost (plus the Kickstarter fee) so it wouldn't end up costing anyone anything except what they pledge. $1K is doable, and if we don't reach that amount, no one is charged at all. If there's a cheaper option (like "away" or "legacy" mode), that would be even easier.

With tomorrow being the deadline, we don’t really have the time for a Kickstarter. I also still have not anything from Beckett/Collectors on the transfer of ownership question.

Kurt, we haven’t been offered any kind of archive or away mode. That functionality doesn’t not seem to be built in.

I'm not joining any other card forums. Don't know enough about vintage cards and I'll still read Blowout, but don't need to talk to any pumping card sellers. Would probably get into a lot of arguments when they recommend the latest non-sport rookie cards. They never even mentioned Card Talk over there and hardly said a thing when NSU was closed down.

If nothing more is done for Card Talk by whichever company is holding ownership of the site (Beckett or Collectors or PSA), if it is just dropped without any acknowledgement or a chance to do anything else, then let the non-sport card collectors remember it with their buying power. The whole thing was just handled badly and its somebody's fault.

But if this is the end of it, at least they had to throw us out the door.

If there is a fund me site set up for this, I am willing to contribute.

What's left if it is the end? Should we just do screenshots of our favorite threads or images?

What about starting a new forum? It wouldn't be the same but it would be something like it over time and its existence would be under our control.

Raven - I do hope to hear from you some day. You've got my email from the spreadsheet, and I'd certainly respect any privacy wishes you may have. You and I have disagreed a few times here and there, but I've always read your posts with interest. You've been a great contributor to the forum. (And I did watch a few episodes of "Above Suspicion", and for some reason it didn't engage me enough to continue. Kelly Reilly was very reserved compared to Yellowstone, which is how I otherwise know of her. Some of the British mysteries are pretty dark, and this was one of them. I like some, but my wife pretty much rejects all of the dark ones, and prefers the "cozies". As she puts it, "Oh, there's a dead body. Would you care for some tea?")

And the same goes for anyone else -- reach out sometime.

It doesn't sound like the odds are in favor of saving this forum. If it shuts down-- at least we would have had that 26 year run of fun. Thanks Harris for starting it in the first place, as well as all the great years of NSU magazine. (And thanks Roxanne & Marlin!)

Card Talk was a great place to post about trading cards from a collector's point of view. It was good to have people with different ideas make suggestions and recommendations and offer various opinions about this hobby. It was both fun and educational when a discussion started. I think that's when you learn the most because there are always multi sides to everything and if you just want to talk to someone who agrees with you, you will never learn one thing more.

Card collectors have a hard time agreeing about anything, including the basic terms of the hobby. Upon reflection, I think that's part of the obsessive nature we all share. We are individuals and to some extent solitary in our habits. We are blessed or cursed with a collector's mentality, and we are always looking for something. It's not all about money, in spite of eBay values. It's about having stuff that we worked to find and makes us smile.

And on that note, I will once again say vaya con dios to all my fellow Card Talkers and "We will always have Paris".

Wouldn't it be funny if nothing happens and we're all here on the forum next week. I wish those darn emojis would work, BIG GRIN.

How much will we have to contribute to keep it going for another 20 years or is it a bottomless hole
