Regarding the Spongebob comics, I am looking at one major comic website now which has EVERYTHING. On the first 20 issues of Spongebob, the store only has 8 of the 20 in stock. Of these 8, they are asking $ 25 to 30 each for 7 of them, and 1 of them is $ 40-50. The last 20-25 issues of the 85 seem to be hard to find, also. Meanwhile, most of the 245 Simpsons Comics seem to be worth $ 5 or less, aside from issues # 1 to 4.

During my unrelenting search for unusual/unknown promos, a few years ago, I came across a pack of SpongeBob cards that, as far as I know, is undocumented. The cello pack circa 2002/2003 contains around 11 cards, but none of the cards have the UD hologram affixed to the back, and they do not say 1st edition on the front. They are probably early prototypes. I haven't been able to find any info on these, and I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this find. I have individual scans of the fronts and backs if anyone can assist in posting them here. This message has been edited. Last edited by: promoking, ____________________

Email me any pictures you want posted here and I can do it.
Some of the one-shots and Treehouse of Horrors are starting to heat up, and there are some variation books (like the "Bartcodes" and the Kaufman/Broad giveaway) that have a good value, as do the Comic-Con exclusives that usually retailed for $10. That said, regular issues of both "Spongebob" and "Futurama" tend to outdo regular issues of the Simpsons. It's likely both had lower print runs than the flagship title and the Bart Simpson spin-off. ____________________ Everywhere around this burg they're running out of verbs, adverbs, and adjectives. I appreciate it! One cannot tell from my scans, but a few of these have foil fronts. ____________________

Unfortunately it appears that the images are not available to everyone. I get the message that the content is not viewable in my region, ____________________

Aren't these for a gaming card (CCG) set and not a non sports set ? I did an ebay search and I see packs of these for sale.

Could you please point me to the eBay listings that have these for sale? They are CCG, but when people began mentioning comic books in this thread, I figured discussing CCG was fair game. ____________________

I could see the images late last night and I can still see them.

Jess I think its likely that you guys in North America are able to see them whereas those of us in Europe or the UK cannot. I can however state that the images were emailed to me some time after my original post so I have seen them. Many thanks to Chesspieceface. regards John ____________________

Perhaps you should try using a VPN or turning yours off if you are using one. Sometimes it makes a difference as to which movies, images, and website content you'll be able to have access to. ____________________

I don't know what the highest-priced nonsport card is, but Goldin has a triple-signed Harry Potter card on auction right now and the current bid (including premium) is $48,800.

Wow, that's amazing. There definitely is a shift with new collectors in the hobby that focus on things that were previously not that popular. I'm seeing it a lot with some of the Harry Potter cards like this one, but also the Scooby Doo, Disney Chrome and Spongebob Chrome.

. . . and Heritage just sold a Star Wars card for $268,400.

I just can't fathom that (at least) 2 people are willing to spend a quarter of a million dollars on a very common Star Wars card. 1977 Topps Star Wars #1 "Luke Skywalker" #1 PSA Gem Mint 10

Yeah, and my brother, who collected cards when he was a kid, is going through boxes looking for his Star Wars cards. He heard about the sale. I had to tell him that the card sold for that much only because it was considered in gem mint condition. He replied that then his must be worth at least $1000. I told him it doesn't work like that but he was still going to look for his cards.

It's not at all common in that condition, though. Card #1 Luke Skywalker is one of only 9 different cards in the original 66 card "Blue" set that has single digit PSA10s in existence after all this time. There are 9 of the Luke in Top grade. Card #7, The Villainous Darth Vader, only has 5 in PSA10, so one of those would also be extremely valuable. https://www.psacard.com/pop/no...1977/star-wars/47077 I'm mean, there are certainly more out there in ungraded sets and unopened packs, but probably not very many more. This sale could certainly prompt people to check their own copies and possibly submit more of them, which could shake some more loose over the next few months. Card #70 from the red set, "Special Mission For Artoo Detoo!" is a 1/1 in PSA 10. There are only two of Card #80, which also featured R2-D2, and also Card #127 The Rebel Fleet. Both Cards #126 with C-3PO and #132 with Darth Vader have ZERO copies in PSA 10. There are a few cards in the final three sets (Yellow, Green, Orange) that are similarly rare in PSA10. Notably, there are five PSA10s of the uh, excited, C-3PO card from the green set. Card #277 "Bizarre Inhabitants of the Cantina" must have some kind of common production flaw as there are only 10 of those in PSA9, making it the lowest population card in that grade. That reminds me. I actually have 3 copies of the #1 Luke card (and at least 2 of all of the others) that I've never looked at very closely. Hmmm...This message has been edited. I can't understand why anyone would spend a quarter of a million dollars on any non-sport trading card no matter how scarce it might be or the condition it is in. The phrase 'More money than sense' comes to mind
