I thought it might be helpful to start a thread of cards that have jumped in price as it seems to be happening a lot lately, and has caught me off guard. This is kind of a continuation of the RDJ thread -- if people prefer we can keep that one going, but I had a hard time finding it. http://nonsportupdate.infopop....453/m/8127033196/p/1 This is also a similar ongoing thread on Blowout: https://www.blowoutforums.com/...thread.php?t=1377575 Some of the recent posts on Blowout about Kate Beckinsale autos selling for $400+ and Hailee Steinfeld auto selling for $280 were a big jump. Jay Z autos from various sports set have jumped up in the last month -- the cheapest BINs on eBay are now $9,999 -- one auction at $1000. All the lower BINS sold out, and very few are listed. I also noticed that Ozzy Osbourne's Inkworks auto recently sold for $850: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2002-...4:g:svsAAOSwoAlfjHtz Another Ozzy sold at Best Offer, but I don't know how much for. . . Emilia Clarke's 258 West autos seem to be selling consistently for $500ish now (although there appear to be quite a few questionable listings) https://www.ebay.com/itm/EMILI...c:g:6NoAAOSwxF5f793e https://www.ebay.com/itm/Emili...3:g:tDcAAOSwAjZgLIDa https://www.ebay.com/itm/EMILI...2:g:CI8AAOSwDIVgJEsS In the non-sport adjacent category we have Netpro Tennis Serena Williams 2003 autograph selling for up to $5000. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2003-...4:g:2BYAAOSw8wZgG2lK

A certified autograph card signed by a popular celebrity always has the best chance of increasing in value, even when it is expensive from the start. Typically the print run of the card, and therefore the number of certified authentic autographs, is low. Sometimes much too low to even be on someone's wish list. Because it is a guaranteed signed card, it can transcend the product or title that it is included in. Besides collectors who want that title, others will simply want that card. Because production is low, it is easy for even a moderate cult name to have higher demand than supply, which explains why ladies like Jessica Alba and Megan Fox and even Kate Beckinsale remain expensive when I just shrug at their autograph card values. There are some really bizarre autograph card values out there, but there are good reasons for some of it. Rather than make broad statements, you have to consider each one on its own merits and basically decide how much some celebrity's guaranteed signature is worth to you, not just to the market at large. I consider most of the top tier autograph cards to be very overpriced, but that's just in my estimation. There are two main things that you have to consider. First, many of these popular signers have way more fakes for sale than genuine autographs. That's the single biggest benefit for licensed certified cards. Someone is guaranteeing authenticity. Second, are you collecting for your own pleasure or for sale? If its for sale, you are looking for the best flipping candidates. If its for your collection, you can't afford to overpay and you must stick to who you really like as a fan. If someone is younger and will be signing for the next 20 years, can you wait for your price? Probably can. There are quite a few top tier certified autograph cards in non-sport now. Sports card too, but the rookie card still dominates there. For non-sport, not including the gaming cards, the autograph cards are considered right at the top and even that top has been increasing. But you do have to take a hard look at who you are buying because things change and floodgates open. All of a sudden a previously very limited signer can start signing at pet stores openings. Notice that I haven't mentioned the subject of grading these autograph cards, but current events show that grading alone is increasing card prices for certain people. Again I shrug, but it is there anyway. Just one more thing to say about Emilia Clarke. Her legacy is cemented with Game of Thrones, but like some of the other popular ladies, her acting range is questionable and she has started to do private signings already. Her 258 West autos have gone up because there weren't that many, first line collectors have kept them and some have been sold and destroyed to make other cut signature cards. It also still has room for profits. I'm happy to hold onto the one I have, but I would never pay the current prices for any of her Game of Thrones autos. Like I said, you have to evaluate the real worth of autograph cards based on your motives. There are tons of cheap and medium range non-sport autograph cards worth buying now. When you go after certified autograph cards that are in the top tier, choose wisely.

What cards has Kate Beckinsale signed? I didn't think there were any Underworld cards or sets for any of her other movies.

Found a thread on here from 3 years ago where I was saying James Earl Jones was a card to watch... He's gone from being a sub $150 card to a one pushing on for $1k. I always think he's been under valued, but he stopped signing anything several years ago, he's 90 years old, and Star Wars is an easy target for the speculators. Prices have jumped dramatically for Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher autograph cards as well, if you can even find any for sale these days...

Yes, for signers like Hamill and Jones, and of course the late Fisher, card collectors are seeing a finite number of autograph cards. Hamill may sign again, but he has been out of the latest Star Wars products. Sean Connery's RA cut signature card has jumped in value. Roger Moore also naturally. There is unfortunately always the "death bounce" element when a signer passes away, but usually its a temporary thing that will revert in short order. With popular stars like Moore and Connery or David Bowie for example, the price increases should stick at the higher level because the supply has been capped and the demand is still there. It's a bad reason to go up, but it is a valid one for certain signers only. I should mention that something throwing this off in recent years is both the stock piled signature card and the sticker autograph. Thanks to these saved inventories, autographed cards from deceased stars have been leaking out for many years after their passing. Perhaps only now will Leonard Nimoy see that significant increase in price, if no more Star Trek cards are forthcoming. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Raven,

Rob Dyrdek (Fleer Adrenaline) -- these were selling in the $20-40 range -- last one sold for $115: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2000-...teboard/143971250140 Rob's Press Pass Rage autograph also just sold for $54, not as much as a bump on this one. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2000-...-Dyrdek/124638826404

I spent some time tonight going through completed eBay sales -- I haven't done that in a long time. My initial thoughts are . . . holy ****. I'm happy as I have some cards in my collection that seem to be selling well. I'm also regretful that some of the cards that I've procrastinated picking up are now priced well above what I was looking to pay -- i.e. Michelle Rodriguez Lost autograph. These are just sales that looked interesting to me, I tried to avoid prices that were obviously pumped up due to being a rare parallel or other variation, and I didn't look for cheaper sales -- although if I found cheaper sales I noted them. I mainly tried to note older cards that previously were selling for MUCH less than the current prices. Except for the Rock autograph I think I've seen nearly every other card on this list available for $50-60 or less. I also noticed a couple of cards I was surprised weren't selling for more -- i.e. the Chris Pine Star Trek auto still has variations for around $135, which isn't much more than when they came out. Mummy Returns Rock autograph: $2100 https://www.ebay.com/itm/2001-...1:g:7T4AAOSwpupgPoVt Justin Bieber Americana $290 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Justi...rksid=p2047675.l2557 Jim Lee X-Men Impel autograph $750 https://www.ebay.com/itm/1992-...rksid=p2047675.l2557 LOTR FOTR Merry Autograph -- a couple for $1000ish https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lord-...b:g:iRwAAOSwatddPmiS LOTR FOTR Christopher Lee $450 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lord-...rksid=p2047675.l2557 LOTR FOTR Hugo Weaving $430 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lord-...rksid=p2047675.l2557 Hugh Jackman X-men $450 https://www.ebay.com/itm/2000-...rksid=p2047675.l2557 Willie Nelson Americana $425 https://www.ebay.com/itm/2009-...rksid=p2047675.l2557 Vin Diesel Riddick (Faded autograph) $406 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Chron...a:g:JxsAAOSwiSBfapQe Better Vin auto $338 https://www.ebay.com/itm/The-C...0:g:zU8AAOSwuwdgPuBQ RDA Stargate SG-1 $420 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Starg...c:g:TC0AAOSwHbdgDdr1 Michelle Rodriguez Lost $325 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lost-...rksid=p2047675.l2557 Jim Lee Comic Images X-men $330-355 https://www.ebay.com/itm/1991-...rksid=p2047675.l2557 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-...5:g:F4UAAOSwB5tgK0Rj Ultimate Warrior Americana $350 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ultim...rksid=p2047675.l2557 Danny Devito Batman Animated $250 https://www.ebay.com/itm/TOPPS...rksid=p2047675.l2557 Jon Favreau Ironman I $345 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Jon-F...5:g:zxcAAOSwbahgSVR- Another for $185 Item 373407271343 -- link won't work Edward Norton Hulk $305 https://www.ebay.com/itm/2008-...6:g:GWkAAOSwh8lgJCFz Jackie Chan Americana $811 https://www.ebay.com/itm/2009-...rksid=p2047675.l2557 Jason Momoa Stargate Atlantis $180 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Starg...5:g:qQoAAOSwu-JfL1Rh Weird Al Pop Century $177 https://www.ebay.com/itm/2014-...3:g:QPsAAOSw9-lgGzhz Christina Hendricks Firefly $177.50 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Chris...0:g:XvAAAOSwRfNgBLjH Aubrey Plaza Parks and Rec $172 https://www.ebay.com/itm/2013-...2:g:8SoAAOSwigpf6p~Q Solid Prices on other Parks and Rec too -- especially the red variations. I don't find that list of autograph cards surprising, except for someone like Ultimate Warrior or Aubrey Plaza, who I don't follow at all. Most of them were close to being the best autograph card in the set when released. Time has passed and they have found their way into collections not easily dismantled or liquidated. The demand is still pretty good or gotten better, but the supply for sale is minimal. That is the definition of the supply and demand theory. The price goes up. For other signers you could point to more specific reasons as well. Momoa got the JL/Aquaman bump. The Rock, goes without saying. Both Stan Lee and Christopher Lee passed away. Anybody associated with a Marvel or DC movie or comics. Anybody who has only one certified autograph card and a fanbase. Any star signature from Potter, Bond, or GoT had to go higher up to a point. Like Star Wars and Star Trek some of them have hit a plateau or even slightly dropped as each release increased the supply. Potter has finished, so no more there. Whoever has died or just stopped signing for any of the other four titles is done, absent unreleased inventory. For a title like GoT, autograph prices for stars not super rare may not get a significant boost for awhile because they are still coming. Eventually they will start to dry up. Then there are the more card specific reasons why some sales may be higher than others. Of course there is general card condition, even without grading, but there is also autograph quality. Some signers are inconsistent. Some have better or worse placement, or better or worse inking. Some signatures change over time or mood. Some are complete and some are abbreviated. I would absolutely pay a lot more for a whole autograph over initials, or a neat autograph over a sloppy one. It makes a difference in comparing what may not be like autographs cards. So that is why I caution against the broad statement when considering partial sales data because what you want to find is the value in bargains for certified cards, not just throw a load of money at something that wasn't worth it before the price went up. Wow -- great addition. I had no idea. Hulk Hogan autos have also jumped -- I am only looking at releases like Pop Century and All Time Greats and not wrestling releases. These autos are between $120 and 180 now -- parallels can go higher.

This thread is boggling my mind. Is it just disposable income making these cards skyrocket?

Initially I thought it was due to the hype from sports card people -- which does seem to influence some of the cards -- like anything from a sports card set like Ginter or anything Marvel related -- but I don't think sports card hype can explain a lot of these -- Elvira autographs at $143 or Scooby Doo voice actors at $150, LOTR Autos over $400, etc.

Also noticed that sellers seem to be dumping Ryan Seacrest American Idol auto cards that came from the Fleer Liquidation for ~$30. This is significantly down from where they were previously. Who knows how deep the well of cards is, but this seems like a pretty attractive price to me.

So do you consider any of your listed sales to be unusually good for you chesspieceface? The Favreau has risen, not sure what the sets should be, but the GoT autos that I am most familiar with seem to be reasonably priced. No bargains, but well within range, especially for inscription cards. On second thought those 2 Leslies seem like a nice bargain. A lot of the autograph cards that have increased, at least the ones I notice on eBay, are secondary, almost what you might call reflective cards. There are currently about 500 Pop Century and 340 Americana autograph cards with active listings over there. Many are still stuck as commons, but some better names have moved into 3 figures when they weren't before. Same thing with those popular ladies with staying power despite not so much talent. I think part of the increase is just because more collectors are considering those hodge-podge products now as an alternative to autograph cards beyond their reach. Before the sticker signatures, sometimes poor designs and personal photos turned more people away. Now the big wave rises all boats mentality has kicked in. Nothing wrong with that, it makes more sense than a lot of what is going on. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Raven,
