The highly advertised Auckland Card Show has been held over this weekend Fri to Sun . I was going to go but decided against it being an 8 to 9 hr trip .Just as well from the You Tube items that have come up it is all about Pokemon .
And I have only seen interviews nothing about the floor vendors visitors etc ,or the set up of the venue.A few give away breaks (Pokemon) It is if there are no other cards in the world. No Promo Cards no Promo material about show etc.
Dont know what Entrance fee was but thankful I never went now. From what I have seen on U Tube very disappionting for a show that I saw somewere advertised as the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere. It probably was very good from vendors buyers point of view but none of this was shown to make the public come back next year.
From the You Tube point it seemed that the show was about a series of interviews and the building of egos, and not about the trading and selling of cards
From what has been shown on You Tube very disappointing.

Hi Piko,

I'm surprised at the continued popularity of Pokemon. It seems even more popular than it was in the late 90's-early 2000's. Last year, I happened upon a local mall show that used to be mostly sports memorabilia but now it's all Pokemon dealers, sports card dealers, and Pokemon dealers who also sell sports cards. I saw only one non-sports card at the whole show. I think someone brought it by mistake.

You don't see non-sport dealers because you can't pay the bills just selling non-sports at shows.

Anyone who's seen my setup knows there are plenty of non-sport cards to be had. From singles, autos, and wax, I carry it all.

But if I didn't sell Pokémon at shows, I couldn't cover the table fees.

I still get people all the time that claim to not have known that Marvel/Star Wars/Trek cards still were being made.

In the brick and mortar shop, Pokémon outsells non-sport 20:1. It's not even close, people think they are cool but are usually just looking.

Pokémon is not evil or wrong, it's just another thing to collect. But the hype is full force right now and people who want to make money pay attention to that.

Ed
