ratios in X Files CCG V1 Booster Packs?

Hi, i recently took my old cards out of storage and with only 65 to go and having adult money now, i ordered a booster box of 36 packs to try get close to completing my collection.
then an hour later found a guy selling 350 on gumtree cheap and ended up getting almost everyone i needed...including half the ultra rares and a promo.

now all i need are:

119 fixed
127 fixed
162 ultra rare
164 fixed
172 ultra rare
174 ultra rare
243 ultra rare
270 ultra rare
284 ultra rare
293 ultra rare
339 fixed
and the promos

my question is:
with that many ultra rares and fixed needed,
am i crazy to try find them in this box?
i would need 3 ultra rares and 4 rares to make it worth the cost of the box.
instead of just selling the box and buying the ones i need on ebay.

Does anyone remember the ratio's in these boxes?

I think it was 1 to zero per pack but not sure .
I purchased a couple of packs when they came out but dont know what is what , I will go through them and see what is in them .
But go to the Site Map on the bottom of most pages
Scroll down to Trading Cards in Collectibles .
Type in X Files CCG cards
There are a lot for sale you might have to buy them as I have not seen any that i can remember for trade
My interest is only in the Promos and I still need four or five
And welcome to the forum

The fixed cards would be in a starter box. You got 1 rare or ultra rare in every pack. I can't remember the odds anymore. I won a contest from a gaming magazine and got 4 or 5 boxes. Still did not finish the set. This was during the CCG craze. The game itself is not fun to play.

thanks for the welcome piko.
and yeah it was real clunky to play. i remember me and my sister tried to play the first day they came out and it was awful.never pklayed it again. couldn't really believe they just threw it together and until a week ago i didn't even know that there was an expansion. i just collected these as an x files nut who had not been diagnozed with ocd yet Smile it helped that i made about $7 a week for odd jobs and that was the cost of one pack. i think at the start my dad bought me and my sis a starter deck and she gave hers to me thinking the game was silly. i only bought one more starter deck but bought a lot of boosters to make this set.

nslists says:
"Starter decks included 20 cards, banded together, with "fixed" cards
available only in this grouping plus other common cards that are available there as well as elsewhere. Also
in each starter deck box were 40 loose cards, including 25 commons/fixed, 12 uncommons, and 3 rares.
Booster boxes held 36 packs of 15 cards each."
no mention of ultra rares in starter decks so maybe opening booster packs is the way to go.
they should be at the post office and it would be nice to just tear them all open.

i've got to give respect to themidianguard.com.au for offering to help complete my collection.
he sells CCG & boardgames if anyone's interested.

and the promo cards i'm really interested in.
i've only got 2 and they're both mulligan.
after completing the retail set, i'm kinda planning on buying the whole 23 from the premiere set in one go because they seem to turn up on ebay regular in sets.

I remember buying the James Bond "Goldeneye" CCG cards around 1995 or 1996, not to play the game, but just to collect all of the cards.

Assembling a set by buying packs and boxes ended up costing me around $ 700. Those were the days before ebay.

I'll start by quoting myself: "There are many disagreements among XFCCG checklists on how to report the rarity of the different cards." Cool I never saw enough breakdown reports to get a good ratio for Ultra-Rares. But an old Scrye price guide that listed cards individually put Rares at $1.80 and Ultra-Rares at $13-$20 each. When I was an active trader, we settled on about a 5:1 trade value for UR versus R.

So a Booster box of 36 packs held maybe 6 Ultras. Collation was notably poor for v1. I had to get a bunch of my Ultras in trades and never did score 0172 Scully Abducted. (Maybe it's time to complete this set!)

Complicating things a bit were the facts that some R/UR were found loose in Starter boxes. Most of the v1 Rares were also found in v2 packs, but Ultra-Rares were all exclusive to either v1 or v2.

"Fixed" cards were a bit weird because they weren't all found in every Starter box. I ended up splitting them into "Fixed Common" and "Fixed Uncommon" groupings, but the main factor was that they were not found in Booster packs.

I tried to clarify some of the oddities at http://nslists.com/xfccg1.htm but I still get confused. There were a lot of conflicting reports "back in the day", partly due to the poor collation (which was much better in v2, but the repeated cards are marked XF96 in v1 and XF97 in v2).

Oh, you also mentioned a promo card. Here's a list of known XFCCG promos. If anybody knows any others, please let me know. http://nslists.com/xfccgp.htm

Back in those "good old days" most CCG makers would overprint the first editions and the early expansions to blanket retail-store racks hoping that the game would catch on. A year or so later, you could often get overstocked boxes and cases dirt cheap. That's when I bought a bunch of series because there was a decent chance of collecting all of the Rares, especially since there were a lot more traders around. I can't tell you how many boxes of Commons I ended up discarding, after I had built enough "complete Common sets" and "complete Uncommon sets".

Artwork and design made them interesting to me as collectibles, even if you never played the game and didn't complete a set. Opening another box to fill in the Rares scratched the itch to open packs. I still have some unopened cases that cost less than $10 including shipping.

By the mid-1990s, more CCG makers printed only about as many cases as they figured would sell, based on previous expansions. Eventually it became cheaper to print a second wave of cards if you sold out the first printing. Either way, the days of "dirt-cheap gaming cards if you wait a year" ended.

"In the days before ebay" but after the growth of the internet, there were card consolidators, some of whom actively searched for overstocks by dealers, letting them empty storage units full of unsold product. I fondly remember 1990s deals from Abon, Paul & Judy, Marchant, etc. By 2000 ebay made it easier for dealers to sell off their own overstocks, and ebay is where "dumped product" moved.

hey thanks mate Smile question answered-ish Smile 6 ultra rares is still worth opening the case for. i'm a gambling man and so close to finishing the set. and yeah it was confusing at the time. i was the only collector of these i knew and i got three of the kuzdin card in my only 3 starter decks. and people are asking $44 for it on ebay now. i've actually got a price guide page cut out from 1996/7 (probably wizard since i have mulligan)
common 5c-30c
uncommon 75c-$1.50
rare $3-$6
fixed 25c-75c
and the UR range from $18-$30
very straightforward. too straightforward.
so it seems even wizard didn't understand the wierdness of cards like duane barry turning up once in my 1000 cards in my experience

and i can't express how much V2 ruined my experience of this set by colating the cards so much better it was a lot less like being a ten year old gambler Smile
,only bought 3 boosters.
plus the OCD in me hated to see those teal borders in the gaps in my folder full of black bordered cards

well my 36 boosters arrived so i will be able to give ratios for that box soon...but i just got home from part of a root canal (now australia has non essential surgery back) and 1/3 of the novocaine dripped out of my gum but the dentist didn't notice. i've never spent a half hour clenching like that in my life so i am going to leave my booster box until i stop shaking
Peace Big Grin

ok, a bunch of painkillers later and i had the open box on the edge of my bed and knocked it off spilling a quarter of the packs out Big Grin
so this won't be a map at all but just ratio's for 36 packs of premiere series in one sealed box.
although i have tried to place the packs back where it looked like they fell from,
and will be going through the packs
from top to bottom and lef to right
this will reference Allenders values of rareness.

cards go from the top of the pack down.

It's permitted and encouraged! But there's a separate section called "Box Breakdowns" where breaks are collected for posterity (since May 2003), they're easily searchable, and recent reports are shown at the top. If a set is not in the "recent" group, use the Search because the alphabetical sorting by title can be misleading.

Usually we don't go so far as mapping every pack for common cards. Summarizing ratios, listing chase card pulls, telling people progress to completing a series over a case or more, and showing links to images of special cards are popular.

Amending: Recently released sets are grouped at the top. There's a link to recent reports but it doesn't seem to work any more.

man i can see why this series caused disagreemants because i never would have thought i'd get so many similar packs in one box. i think as a kid, by buying one pack a week i avoided this piling up of doubles.
in my original collection i had 300 from the set and only 120 doubles. i think this case has nearly 100 cards doubled. 3 packs had almost identical layout.
oh well .i got deep throat Big Grin
