So I opened the two sealed boxes that I got in my Razor boxes. The Jericho box had the pants pieceworks of Kennith Mitchell as Eric Green and the auto redemption of Michael Gaston as Gray Anderson. I figured it would cost a couple bucks to send the redemption to Inkworks the way I package things, so I went and bought the auto on eBay for under $2. lol. Then, I opened my Scooby Doo box. Although there was no sketch, I did pull one of the two scarce autos from the set, Tim Conway, so I am very pleased with that...and I really like the set! This is one auto I will be keeping in my collection. So, not too bad. This message has been edited. Last edited by: rns91294,

Not to mention that it would be really silly to send an expired redemption card to a company that is out of business. ____________________ Feeling happy? Then rip open a box. Feeling blue...then rip 2!

Given the amount I opened of each, there's very little overlap in the autos (though obviously a fair bit in the sealed boxes) and I'm very happy with my case.

Interesting the number of Joel Gretsch auto's in this release - It was a tough pull when the 4400 Series 2 came out (it was the one auto I didn't get in my case).

Silver Card Talk Member |
Sounds like Inkworks held onto them for some reason.. This should make the price crumble for the Gretsch.. Hope Alan Capland is very happy what he's done to the hobby..

I've always held (even before the Razor Ink products) that its better every single autograph is either in a sealed pack, or else is in the hands of people who actually want them. A store room full of cards held by profiteers results in things like three Razor Ink Vaults being released in 2 years. I'm glad these cards are finally out, hopefully there aren't too many other gigantic hoards out there to be similarly dispersed. I should have a break for this in a day or two. ____________________ Everywhere around this burg they're running out of verbs, adverbs, and adjectives. There was no bigger promoter and supporter of the non-sport hobby than Allan Caplan. Anyone who doubts that need look only at the San Diego Comic-Con. Of the VERY few companies who bothered to set up at the show, NONE did so on the scale of Inkworks. And Allan's generosity to individual collectors is still unparalleled. (The last time I was at Comic-Con, Allan gave every Card Talk member a boxed DVD set, as well as special promo cards.) If it seems like I'm taking things personally, I suppose I am. Some people might question how Inkworks ended its existence. But with all of the bashing of Inkworks and now Allan personally, I felt like someone needed to speak up for the company and the man. This message has been edited. I have to add as well. I met Allen several times at the Philly non-sport show. He is an extremely nice guy and so was everyone else who worked at their booth at the shows. Inkworks took on many projects and took a gamble on many of them. I think they did a fantastic job and yes, I am shocked they are out of business now. I really wish it had not come to that. They had a guarantee for most of their products with the insertion ratios. They held back for damaged cards, but also had actors sign more autos than actually needed. Maybe they felt it was better to have them sign more than not enough. Regardless, who is to say that all the other companies out there don't have a back stock like this? We didn't know Inkworks did until this Razor thing, but other companies may work in the same manor. Regardless, this is not Allen's fault. But, the nice thing about this forum is that we are all entitled to our personal opinions. I just wanted to add mine. This message has been edited. Last edited by: rns91294,

Yep, I've added mine since I've lost so much $$ value in Inkworks Cards because of Alan Caplan. In his time he really did give so much to the hobby but now it will take a lot for it to recover.

I'm with you Kevin! A big reason for my return to the Non-Sports hobby & collecting is Allan Caplan and the quality/service that Inkworks brought to the field. I'm sorry for the demise of Inkworks but glad that many of the autograph & pieceworks cards that I've been wanting are more available & affordable these days.

I agree. As mainly a collector only, it is nice to be able to afford some of the cards I wanted that I wasn't able to get before. I could see how from a seller's standpoint that this would be a bad thing though.

This is a box breakdown thread. While these are all sensible points, I think that discussion is happening in the other Razor Ink Vault 2010 thread if you want to participate.

So it is: My case had 20 different boxes, all Inkworks except a "James Bond in Motion" which I had a great time opening. (Two Autos, Two Multi costumes. Nice cards but I was about 10 cards short of a base set, despite having 16 extras. I'm opening some more of the boxes, so I'll finish that before I come back with pics and details.) All 80 Razor "re-pack" autograph cards were different which is a definite plus. Unlike some of the breaks we've seen, the vast majority of these were Inkworks issues (71 in all including double digits for 4400 and Smallville). Of the 9 that weren't Inkworks, 7 were Rittenhouse and the last were the 2 Razor Pop Century Preview autos (Audrina "Hills" Patridge and Chris "Kid" Reid), beautifully designed, but why not "Play" from Kid N Play as the other preview auto, what a great set that would be. I knew going into this I'd have to sell off some of this stuff since I can't put out so much for a case this expensive ($800) without doing so. Not collecting a good many of these sets, that shouldn't be too hard to do, but I was glad to pick up at least a few "permanent" additions to my own collection. Highlights for me are a Katey Sagal Lost auto (not for "Lost" which I've never seen, but more for her werk on "Futurama" and "Married With Children"), a Stan Winston Small Soldiers autograph, and a lovely Shrek painting by Renae DeLiz from the box of Shrek 3 I opened which more than made up for a (rare) dud box from Inkworks, that being a Hellboy Animated box I opened only for the sketch card, only to find no sketch card! I also opened the AVP: Requeim box for the sketch, and while that one wasn't so hot, the costume and autograph in that box more than made up for it. Anyway, if through sales/trades I can get back about half of what I spent, I'm fine essentially paying the other half for the stuff I'll end up keeping, and the boxes I got to break. When all is said and done, the majority of these items, boxes and autographs, I would've bought from bargain tables (say $15 to $20 per box and maybe $5 per auto, as long as I had some extra money) which means I'm pleased with this purchase, despite not pulling the big hits the 2009 Ink Vault was laden with. For dealers, this product is an absolute bust beyond selling them new, no question about it. For collectors, you could do A LOT worse for your $40 or $50, which is to say, I can't recommend it for dealers but I DO recommend it for collectors. Indeed, I'm all for, "Razor Ink Vault VAULT 2011", wherein Razor has repurchased the 2009 edition Vaults which are then, along with the remaining 2010 Vaults randomly packed into a larger vault which contains yet another sealed box (a 2nd Vault? No, too confusing) along with 4 more random autographs. There really doesn't have to be any end to this. Eventually, this will lead to the most controversial product ever: "Razor Ink Rittenhouse Topps CardsInc Cornerstone Upper Deck Comic Images Fleer Skybox Imagine Tempo Dart SuperVault Archives 2012", each of which will come 6 random boxes and 25 certified autographs in an actual metal vault that weighs 600 pounds. Congrats on the Emilie De Raven, I didn't see any of those in the previous Vault release, but it may have been in there. The Stan Winston is nice, as are the Xena autos and the Barry Morse. Almost all of the rest are of course duplicates from what was in last year's Ink Vault. So I'm still wondering what happened to all the Spirit autograph cards? Maybe they'll be put in that Razor Ink Vault VAULT 2011 you want to see.
