Thought I would share this project I was working on and recently finished. Strictly speaking they are not Promo cards since the cards themselves are just regular 1994 Fleer Ultra X-Men Team Triptych inserts (which were found exclusively in Walmart packs). But it could still be viewed as a promotion for the set, so figured I’d post in this section (feel free to move the thread if it is in the wrong section).

Everyone probably remembers those comic multi packs from the mid 90s. Some apparently had a single 94 Fleer Ultra X-Men Red Foil Team Triptych under the wrap as a bonus. For one to exist today, it had to get through all these years without someone opening it for the enticing insert card showing on top. I can confirm that all 6 do exist in this form (the packages they come in can vary…from different multi packs).

There is another channel these 6 cards were released as well- they were issued singly wrapped in clear packets, included I believe with a random department store item like beach towels or something (you could find 94 Ultra Triptychs in everything apparently!). For those keeping tabs- these inserts cards could be found in 3 ways: 1. 94 Fleer Ultra Walmart trading card packs, 2. The below comic multi packs, and 3. In a clear packed singly wrapped, included with department store item.

The prices you can find comic packs like the below are surprisingly low- about the amount any typical multi pack goes for, $10-20 a piece. That does NOT mean it’s easy to complete the set though- I spent the better part of 2 years looking for the Iceman one, and finally just found it a few days ago.

You have quite a Marvel collection. Congrats !

Do you have the rare 1995 Marvel Masterpieces Ice Man canvas promo ? Back says PROMOTIONAL SAMPLE

One sold on ebay in 2017 for about $ 300.

Thanks- that is an interesting promo, the 95MM Iceman canvas. I have every other promo in the Marvel Masterpieces line (in original sealed packaging where applicable). I do not have that one. The 95MM canvas iceman promo was not a publicly released promo, only 1 or 2 examples have been observed to my knowledge. If I would have seen that 2017 auction I would have bought it in a fast second. Did not see it unfortunately.

An unrelated side note on the above tryptichs: Some people might view those as…eh it’s a common $30-40 6 card insert set from 94 Fleer Ultra X-Men, and that is true. But being in the package makes it a totally distinct collectible from the card itself to me as a collector- that is the chase. A lot of the hobby does not distinguish it, but I do. Some of the marvel promos can be exceedingly hard to track down in the original packaging (in sealed polybag magazine etc). To take a couple examples: 92 Marvel Masterpieces Cap America promo in a Comics Scoreboard #36 or the 2016 Marvel Masterpieces Hulk Nonsport Update promo in a 2014 issue of NSU.

Here's a picture of the Ice Man promo which Jess posted last September

Besides that 2017 auction, I know of at least 1 other person who has the card
