A set of Star Wars Heritage (Topps, 2004) promos sold for $135 on July 31. That included P1-P6, S1, and L1-L6. Two other sales were $125 each on July 3 and July 10.

A subset of P1-P6 sold for $131 on July 3.

Yea it’s gotta be the Cap, Wolverine, and Surfer making up most of that.

The uncut sheet of these blue backs (of the 5, not the cap) reveals the relative rarity.

The Surfer is the rarest of the 5, even double as rare as the Wolverine. But because of the distribution channels I think the Wolverine ended up almost as rare on the market as Surfer (combined with being top character Wolverine, makes it go for more than Surfer). The Cap is actually the rarest of the 6 blue backs, but he was on a separate sheet, the one with the prototypes (uncut sheet available at the 92 National)- because on a different sheet his relative rarity can’t be deduced. It’s almost gotta be the rarest though based on market availability.

However, I have not actually seen a sealed Advance Comics 36 to say for certain one way or the other, and I’m curious if anyone can produce an example of one.

I don't have either. I've been keeping my eye out for sealed ones as well, but 30+ years later makes them nigh impossible to find.

There may be a reason for this beyond just the time passed (after all 92 was 30+ years ago and Advance Comics from 92 can regularly be found sealed).

I was looking into this after I made that post. On eBay, the search “Advance Comics 1991 sealed” returns 0 results between active and sold. For what it’s worth, I inquired via AI on google, and the answer was surprisingly specific-

I think a very possible explanation here is Advance Comics wasnt issued polybagged prior to 1992. You don’t really see Advance Comics 1990-1991 sealed. #37 Jan 1992 issue of course was sealed and is readily found on eBay (contains 1992 Impel Magneto gold hologram promo card)- that was probably the first one to be sealed.

If the Advance Comics 36 from Dec 91 didnt issue as sealed, I don’t think it could have had the Cap America promo card- it’s a single non-perforated card, it would just fall out. Other clues the Cap America probably didnt come from it are: it’s too early, and also Advance Comics promos would say “Advance Comics” on back like that Magneto gold hologram whereas the Cap promo has no Advance Comics anywhere on it.

All the signs point toward the Cap America promo probably didnt come from Advance Comics, it just came from Scoreboard 36… but if a single sealed copy with the Cap can be produced to the contrary I will of course adjust that stance.
