...and skint!
I've been lucky in that the partners I have had have been reasonably tolerant of my collecting habits (though I wasn't collecting card at the time)

My lady doesn't collect, but is v. tolerant, tho' she can't get her head around the idea that a piece of card could be worth some of the amounts I've shown her. Still, she came to the recent Autographica show in UK and she bought me a Spike Milligan photo/auto, so I think she understands.

Prior to non sport cards, I've always collected. First day covers, music memorabilia, Scout County/District badges and all sorts of stuff down the years. Most of it's gone over the years, but nothing is hoing to part me from my LOTR cards!

My ex-wife was a book collector, so she was a hobbyist as well, although I had an advantage of sorts since my card collection was in our home and her cache was still at her mother's.

This has nothing to do with being single or married, but it illustrates how some people cannot connect with any kind of hobby. I once interviewed with a publishing company in which I showed the HR manager my editorial portfolio. The second question asked of me was 'So, what do you do with these not sport things?' This person had my resume and materials for two weeks prior to our conversation. You need not guess if I won the job. . .

My wife is ok with the whole thing, except those times when we were on vacation at WDW or on the Disney Cruise and I spent half the week looking for cards!

Anyway, she does admit that they take up less room than my last hobby - beer can collecting. (Although I still have 8,000 of those if anyone needs another vice!)

I'm married and actually next weekend is my 8th anniversary. My spouse is tolerant of my collecting, but does refer to it as "your latest obsession." Oh well....so long as I pick up a few cards now and then from T's favorite tv shows things are ok. Though we are currently in the middle of moving and my collection takes up a lot fewer boxes (and weigh far less) than T's rocks.

My wife is very very supportive of my hobby. She just doesnt want to hear about it. I just dont understand how she can not be excited about a card that comes in a bag of french fries. It baffles my mind. She agreed to let me have a rom in our house all to myself, but keep it tidy. No cards leave the room. So as long as she doesnt have to listen to me rant and rave, she has not a problem with it. It could be worse: I don't smoke, I don't drink really, no dope, I don't buy porn, and I mow the lawn. She does, however, like to open packs to try and find insert cards. 'Course she doesnt buy the boxes. frown

I am married, and we are both on this board quite a bit. We collect different things with the occasional crossover like LOTR. We support each other's obsessions, but also help us be a little more reasonable than we would normally be. We also have a card budget(which gets stretched frequently) and all the bookcases in our apartment are full of card binders. My husband and I started collecting cards about three years ago when we realized his sister collected and she gave him a BUNCH of vintage star wars cards he had collected as a kid. Then he started collecting more Star Wars and Star Trek, and I started with Buffy. Now we're addicted!

I wouldnt say my wife understands my collecting habits but she doesnt hassle me about it or try to prevent it. We come from two different social structures. I grew up in Southern California during the height of the Star Wars craze and she grew up on a farm in Southern Tennessee with no running water and a black n white television with only three channels (on a clear day) I guess its true that opposites attract. She does think that the autograph collection is cool especially when I manage to get one from a show that she particularly likes. (Buddy Ebson (Jed Clampett in her eyes) and Burt Reynolds from Rittenhouse Twilight Zone went over big time) She also bacame more enthusiastic when she was able to meet some stars in person at a convention. Of course she likes things that i will never pretend to understand so as long as neither of us go overboard its all good.

mykdude does not, in any manner, make any representations as to whether this post will attain any future value.

I'm single...<wink wink> lol

I started out collecting cards when I was a kid, back when the first Star Wars came out. Then, Empire Strikes Back. Moved onto Incredible Hulk, Mork & Mindy, Battlestar Galactica, E.T., etc. Still have all those cards in my old Empire Strikes Back lunchbox smile

Then, I stopped for awhile, and got into comic books. She-Hulk was my favorite comic. But the cards kept calling me back, and I've stayed with them ever since. What can I say...I'm addicted.

I'm married and actually have been married for 3 months yesterday. My husband is very supportative of my collecting habit. He collects baseball and golf cards, so he really has no room to complain, even if he wanted too wink However, he is sweet, he picks things up for me if he sees them and sometimes he's dead on, and sometimes he's way off the mark, but at least he tries.

Hi,

I live with my girlfriends for almost 2 years. We are both movies and TV shows addicts ! I wasn't really collector, except for X FILES. LAst year, we starting to buy some old boxes, and then....It was the start for our collection. We open boxes together, and we are really addicts now! It is one of our passion, one thing we can share and spend time on. and it is really the best way to appriciate each other when you have passions in common.

COPYCATS!:

I first started collecting with a Tomorrow Never Dies Binder & Base set of QVC and from then on I havn't been able to stop collecting Bond, X-Files, Star Wars.
Much to the bemusement of my parents, they could not quite get around their heads the value and cost of the hobby.
So you can imagine my surprise when my Dad told me he was collecting Lord of the Rings Cards because after years of me ranting about my collections my stepmother bought him some stuff off of QVC as a surprise. He has never stopped since.

So when I got together with present partner, to 'test the water' as it were I went to my (then) local dealer to pick up a LOTR costume card for my father (Sean Bean cost. FOTR) with girlfriend.

Luckily to my relief, rather than think it 'sad' or 'geek chic'or recoil at the 'silly price' she seemed quite interested so I showed her my collection, and within afew months she was collecting X-Men, now Harry Potter.

The rest as we say, is History. We've been together 3 years yesterday and we're both fanatical about cards and I've introduced two extra people into the hobby.

Haha that'd be so cool! I'd love it if I was with someone who was into trading cards. I don't have many friends who are really into cards although my friend Olly is getting into them and hes cute Wink One of my friends boyfriends is kind of into cards but I think I should probably stay away from him lol and I don't know any gay/ bi girls who are into cards...actually I don't think I know many straight girls who are into cards either Confused

Oh, I'm single by the way lol Had a bad break up last year and have been off men ever since

Haha I remember my friend saying she said to my ex "You put Claire off men" LOL Apparently he looked really upset and didn't know what to say, would've loved to have seen his face lol

I met some nice people at the Buffy convention last month but somethings tell me none of them will work out. There was
A gay man, very gorgeous and funny but obviously nothings going to happen
A bisexual girl, she teased me (in a fun way) all weekend but shes not interested
A gay girl, but shes in a relationship
A straight girl, VERY CUTE and sweet but that ain't going to happen either Roll Eyes

And I've quietly had a thing for someone I met at an Amber Benson signing in Grimsby a couple of years ago... you know who you are Wink Big Grin

But theres lots of happily married people here and thats great to see Wink
