Another disaster of a decision was thinking it would be a good holiday release movie. Even the movies I like with Adam Driver in it aren't because of him, there was nothing menacing about him in Star Wars. Ferrari feels like an after thought to Ford vs Ferrari back in 2019, of course that was another car movie that cost nearly $100M to make. I am a little surprised it isn't doing better overseas but I'm not sure if the numbers wont come in until after the weekend. Looks like Wonka has some holiday legs as it should cruise past its budget in the second weekend. ____________________ Just because it's rare doesn't mean it's valuable.

| Wonka is up to 140 M domestically while Aquaman 2 has only grossed 81 M in the U.S. so far. |

| Wonka is up to 164 M and is now #13 for the year, passing Hunger Games. Another 10 M and it will have grossed more than Mission Impossible and Indiana Jones. |

| Wonka passed Indiana Jones and MI7. It is up to 179 M. Within a day or so it will be the # 10 film of 2023 when it passes Taylor Swift's 180 M. |

| "The Color Purple" seems to have really bombed, but it's hard to tell. There was an initial report that it opened well. Then reports that it wasn't doing good overseas, and now reports that it made only a few million. Another site has it at 58M, which is still not good against its 90M budget.
Most telling perhaps is that it's not picking up any awards at the start of awards season. So if it didn't make much money, and it's not getting any peer awards, it was a bad idea for a movie musical even though some people don't want to say it. |

| It appears that the Top 10 of 2023 will look like this:
BARBIE SUPER MARIO BROS. SPIDER-MAN GOTG 3 OPPENHEIMER LITTLE MERMAID ANT MAN 3 JOHN WICK 4 SOUND OF FREEDOM WONKA
Although WONKA will move to # 8 if it can gross another 8 M which it will likely do.
Aside from 3 hits on the list, a bad year for Disney, as well as DC Comics films, and the many sequels released.
Who would have guessed that Indiana Jones, Fast X, Transformers, and Mission Impossible wouldn't be in the Top 10 ? |

| Crazy to live in a world where the 7th highest-grossing film of the year (Ant-Man 3) was considered a flop. |

| And many more sequels coming in 2024:
Ghostbusters, Karate Kid, Kung Fu Panda, Inside Out, Godzilla vs. Kong, Despicable Me, Deadpool, Sonic the Hedgehog, Joker, probably others. |

| Wonka is now up to 201 M domestically.
Wonder if it has legs to earn 13 M more and to pass ANT MAN 3 to become the # 7 film of 2023 ?
AQUAMAN 2 is up to # 20 for the year but won't go higher. Another bomb from DC. |

| Wonka is up to 211 M. If it can somehow earn 3 M it will pass Ant Man and become the # 7 film of 2023. |

| Nice to see a heart-in-the-right-place movie like "Wonka" get rewarded. Much like the Gene Wilder original, it will become only more beloved with time. ____________________ Everywhere around this burg they're running out of verbs, adverbs, and adjectives.
