Yeah, "The Odyssey" is getting a big promo push but is scalping tickets for a movie really happening?

On one of the talk shows someone declared "The Odyssey" the most anticipated movie of all time. Uhhh, I think people were more excited about the release of "The Empire Strikes Back."

In New York people are paid to stand in line for someone else. They shop for groceries for someone else. They walk someone else's dog and get their dry cleaning. Say you offer concierge services and there is no end to what you can do for someone else.

But yes, its true, the IMAX theatre is sold out and some of those ticket holders got them just to resell. Now are they really getting $400 and up? That's what the radio's been reporting this morning, but I would question that amount for any film.

For a sold-out live concert of somebody with a following, New York scalpers can get that easy. Somehow people find the money for this stuff.

TOY STORY 5 is now the # 1 film of the year, domestically.

THE ODYSSEY is # 10 and climbing.

MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE, MOANA, and SUPERGIRL are way, way down the list at # 19, 20 and 21.

The Odyssey is up to 286 M domestically making it the # 5 film of the year

So I'm guessing "The Iliad" has already been greenlit?
Maybe they'll just go with "Odyssey 2: The Revenge of Polyphemus Jr.".

I heard this morning that all 41 IMAX theatres showing "The Odyssey" are sold out thru September. It most certainly will end up as a top box office film for the year.

Maybe it's become a drinking game. Maybe Paganism is the new thing. Other than that, I can't believe millions of people understood and agreed with the themes expressed, not in Homer's "The Odyssey", but in Nolan's twisted version of "The Odyssey".

It's a good thing my heroes have always been cowboys. Let's just hope Nolan doesn't decide to make a new imaging of the battle of the Alamo.

That's actually what's next for him, Nolan's re-telling of "The Alamo", starring Timothee Chalamet as Jim Bowie and Tyler The Creator as Davy Crockett. It's setting is being updated to occur in the far-flung future, and on Mars instead of Texas. Music by Chappell Roan.

Throw in Javier Bardem as General Santa Anna, Sean Penn as "fight to the death" William B. Travis and a musical number from the cast of Hamilton and it's another Nolan masterpiece.

Whatever the themes are, people are flocking to it because it has become the movie to see. They want to see the battles and the giant Cyclops we get just a glimpse of in one of the commercials.

I remember seeing a couple of early IMAX documentaries (one on sharks) in the late 90's at the theater in Balboa Park, San Diego while I was in town to go to San Diego Comic-Con.

Those are the 41 IMAX equipped for 70mm, and that's all there are, worldwide. (I actually have one not too far away from us.) There are many, many more regular IMAX theaters, but those 41 are considered to be the ultimate viewing experience. Since this movie was filmed in Imax in its entirety, and not just parts of it (which has usually been the case), and it has hit big, it's quickly become the crowning glory for the format.

Well, why not? Santa Anna was his surname, but there must be casting inclusivity, so it's close enough.

Spider Man may gross as high as 350 M domestically this weekend and The Odyssey may reach 400 M, making it the # 3 film of the year.

Huge numbers, and if Spidey is actually good, look out!

So Spider Man ended up making 360 M this past weekend, which is the largest weekend opening of all time, passing the 2019 Avengers: Endgame film which opened to 357 million back then

Did it with no Imax money either, as "Odyssey" still has those screens locked up. Early estimates had it falling just short of Endgame, but I guess it had a strong Sunday night in the USA. I think Endgame still has the worldwide opening weekend record, though.

I thought it was pretty good (and it was a fun ride in the bouncy seats) but it'll be pretty hard for any future Spidey movie to reach the gold standard level in the franchise, which for me are Spider-Man 2 (Maguire) and Spider-Man 3 (Holland).

Within a week, the Top 5 of the year, domestically, will likely look like this:

(1) SPIDER-MAN
(2) TOY STORY 5
(3) THE ODYSSEY
(4) SUPER MARIO GALAXY
(5) MICHAEL

The Odyssey may even move up to the # 2 position by Labor Day.

This list will likely remain the same until December when AVENGERS comes out.

I don't think that DUNE 3 coming in November will make the Top 5.

Spider Man may reach 650 M domestically this weekend, about 200 M ahead of the number # 2 film of the year, Toy Story 5. Quite a stunning achievement

It just needs to get 722 million to take 5th place on the all-time USA chart, which is very likely at this point.

1. SW Force Awakens - 936m
2. Avengers Endgane - 858m
3. Spidey: No Way Home - 814m
4. Avatar - 785m
5. Top Gun: Maverick - 721m

Worldwide, it's in 12th place, but will take 10th place in the next couple of days. "Spiderman: No Way Home" sits in 8th all time on the global chart, and just missed joining the 2 billion club which features only the 7 movies above it. This new movie will very likely top the last one and become the 8th member of the exclusive club. It has already become the 15th American movie to earn over 1 billion in just international ticket sales.

At 671 M, Spider-Man is now the 10th highest grossing film of all time domestically

Within the next week, it should be in the Top 5, passing TITANIC, AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, AVATAR 2, BLACK PANTHER, and TOP GUN: MAVERICK.
