Tommy CHits and Misses of 2024
At the rate that they are going, I don't think either Transformers OR Joker will make the Top 20 films of the year, domestically.
Mad Max: Furiosa didn't make it.
Not good news for those movies.
October 16, 2024, 10:04 AM
Tommy CBy this coming weekend, the Top 5 domestically of the year will be:
1) INSIDE OUT 2
2) DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE
3) DESPICABLE ME 4
4) BEETLEJUICE
5) DUNE 2
The next "big" film coming is VENOM 3. The last one made about 210 M, so this movie might make the Top 10, but I don't think it will be in the Top 5 for the year.
October 18, 2024, 03:12 AM
mykdudeI only saw the first one and that was enough for me but one can always appreciate watching a film grow into a successful series without wasting $100M in production costs.
Terrifier was made for $50K and made $416 at the box office plus it grew on streaming services.
Terrifier 2 had a budget of $250K and earned a box office of $15.7M
Terrifier 3 at $2M is currently at $30.8M and still going.
Total for the series $2.3M budget turned into $47M at the box office. Massive Hit!

Tommy CVenom 3 grossed 51 M domestically this weekend, lower than expected
November 04, 2024, 03:03 PM
Tommy CVenom 3 is up to 90 M domestically, which is OK but not exactly lighting the world on fire.
It will probably end up in the Top 15 of the year but not the Top 10.
The Tom Hanks film "Here" made 5 M. Reportedly it had a budget of 50 M.
November 07, 2024, 07:15 PM
mykdudeYeah every once in awhile Hanks finds himself in that weird movie that fails to connect...kinda like Cloud Atlas.
Venom not doing too bad with a $120M budget and a $320M world wide box office. Especially for the third part of a trilogy.

David R"Red One", a film starring Dwayne Johnson about Santa getting kidnapped, opens today. It reportedly cost 250 M to make and is not expected to be a hit.
Gladiator 2 is coming next week.

Maybe Dwayne should have a word with himself about the wisdom of doing a PG13/12A film involving Santa Claus.

Agreed! Maybe he could take some acting lessons and do a couple of indie films. I couldn't help but think of "The Night the Reindeer Died!" while watching the trailer.

Tommy CWicked is up to 128 M domestically and should make its way into the Top 10 of the year this weekend, for its second week of release.
Disney's Moana 2 is out today.
November 27, 2024, 02:08 PM
mykdudeLooks like the international box office is going to show love to Gladiator II. This, Y2K and Lord of the Rings are the last films of the year I want to see in the theater.

Tommy CWicked has passed 260 M domestically and Moana 2 is up to 220 M. Both will definitely end up in the Top 5 films of the year.
December 08, 2024, 06:34 PM
Tommy CWicked and Moana 2 have both passed 300 M domestically and are now # 4 and 5 of the year. They may soon pass Despicable Me 4 which for now is # 3.

There's a new LOTR film coming to theaters?
December 09, 2024, 03:58 PM
Tommy CTed, it is an animated movie which opened overseas and so far it hasn't done very well at the box office and it's received mediocre reviews.
It's called The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.
It was released in over 3,000 theaters this past weekend and grossed a mere 2 million.
Opens in the U.S. on Dec 13.

People are probably waiting for the live action remake

December 10, 2024, 09:52 AM
Tommy CI predict that by this weekend, the Top 5 will look like this:
1) INSIDE OUT 2
2) DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE
3) WICKED
4) MOANA 2
5) DESPICABLE ME 4
Not sure what other "big" movies are coming for the rest of the year, other than another live action LION KING film on Dec 20, called MUFASA.

Wow, first I'm hearing of it. And it sounds like it'll probably be the last I' hearing of it as well.

Tommy CThe Spider-Man film "Kraven the Hunter" is coming on Friday but it is not expected to do well.
Ominously, Sony has announced that this will be their last Spider-Man spin-off movie.
