Hits and Misses of 2025
In a few days, the Top 10 of 2025 will look like this:

1) MINECRAFT
2) LILO & STITCH
3) SUPERMAN
4) JURASSIC WORLD
5) WICKED 2
6) SINNERS
7) FANTASTIC FOUR
8) HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON
9) CAPTAIN AMERICA
10) MISSION IMPOSSIBLE

Although ZOOTOPIA 2 is likely to break into the Top 10 by this weekend. Probably be up to # 8 by then.

Looks like Wicked is starting to slow. Should hit 300 M this weekend which means it won't get higher than # 5 for the year. It won't pass Jurassic World

Looking at the numbers for domestic grosses, it appears that 2025 will come in less than 2023 and 2024.

We may never again see the numbers which the movie studios made between 2016 and 2019, when they hit 11 billion each year.

The studios hit 8 billion each of the last 2 years, but it doesn't look like they will reach that in 2025.

I'm doing my part.
I saw these at the actual cinema this year:

WOLF MAN
CAPTAIN AMERICA
LOONEY TUNES: THE DAY THE EARTH BLEW UP
THE MONKEY
MY DEAD FRIEND ZOE
MICKEY 17
OPUS
SNOW WHITE
THUNDERBOLTS*
FINAL DESTINATION
LIFE OF CHUCK
28 YEARS LATER
SUPERMAN
FANTASTIC FOUR
TOGETHER
NAKED GUN
WEAPONS
NOBODY 2
LONG WALK
SPINAL TAP II
ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER
BUGONIA
RUNNING MAN
WICKED: FOR GOOD
FACKHAM HALL

For the most part, they were all very good (yes, even Snow White) but my favorites from the above list were "Bugonia" and "Life of Chuck". I've already seen dozens and dozens more on streaming and will definitely seek out the various awards contenders I've missed once they hit the various platforms. From the remaining 2025 slate, we'll probably go to the cinema for Marty Supreme and Song Sung Blue.

Looks like the new Avatar may hit 100 M this weekend, but Sponge Bob may only make 20 to 25 M.

I haven't seen one since "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny." What does a drink cost now?

I have noticed Wendy's restaurants closing and wondered why. They have good food but then I went to one two weeks ago. I usually get the basic burger combo and a chili. It used to be maybe $12 - something like that. I almost cancelled the order when the total came to just over $19. That's a lot. No wonder the average lunch-seeking person is making a point of driving right by a Wendy's.

Avatar actually opened to about 88 M this weekend which was about 2/3 of what the last one made. Now they are saying there may not be a fourth film.

It's too much of a passion project for James Cameron, he'll find a way.

If you go in early for a show, sodas are free as you'll find plenty half-full ones left behind in many of the cupholders.
I do recommend getting a new straw though.

Avatar is up to about 120 M domestically. But I can't see it making 688 M in the U.S. like the last one.

And don't forget the free popcorn on the seats and the floor.

Zootopia 2 will probably pass Wicked and Jurassic World by the end of the year to become the # 4 highest grossing film of 2025 domestically
