The bigger story is budgets...MI8 is roughly $400M and Lilo & Stitch is $100M
Of course Mission Impossible has a bunch more international potential.

catskilleagleI want to see "Superman" in a theater. I haven't seen last year's "MI" yet so I want to see that before this year's. My brother says the Wes Anderson movie looks good. I havent seen all of his but I've liked all the ones I've seen.

Tommy CNow they are saying it might be about 180 M for Lilo and Stitch this 4 day weekend but Mission Impossible only about 77 M.
May 25, 2025, 04:23 PM
mykdudeLilo & Stitch $341M world wide.....instant hit.
Mission Impossible world wide at $204M...respectable but still a long way to go to recover the massive production budget.
Final Destination Bloodlines is a hit nearly doubling its budget domestically with another $100M international.
Sinners is another hit passing its budget by $160M domestic with another $80M international.
Thunderbolts is roughly $100M short of break even.
Accountant 2 is big Miss.

Tommy CThe Top 5 of 2025 domestically so far:
(1) Minecraft (421 M)
(2) Sinners (259 M)
(3) Captain America (200 M)
(4) Lilo & Stitch (183 M)
(5) Thunderbolts (174 M)
No doubt that Lilo will be # 2 by early June.
Mission Impossible will likely make it to # 6 this coming weekend. Will it break 200 M ?
May 29, 2025, 11:17 AM
Tommy CLilo & Stitch will hit 200 M domestically by tomorrow.
Mission Impossible only up to 86 M as we speak.

Fortunately made on a modest budget of $45M....it did break $47M world wide. It may not earn it's money back in the theater but streaming should give it a boost.

Tommy CThe new Top 5 domestically:
(1) Minecraft (422 M)
(2) Lilo & Stitch (280 M)
(3) Sinners (261 M)
(4) Captain America (200 M)
(5) Thunderbolts (181 M)
Mission Impossible is struggling at 122 M. It might make less than the last one, which grossed 172 M in 2023 and was considered to be a disappointment.

David RThe John Wick spinoff "Ballerina" comes out Friday
Will it be like the Furiosa (the Mad Max spinoff) last summer, which flopped ?

I don't know his level of involvement, but they're using Keanu on a lot of promo material. That should be a pretty big draw.

Tommy CBallerina debuted at only 25 M this weekend.
Mission Impossible slowing down quickly. Only up to 149 M, while the last one made it to 172 M.
Thunderbolts got up to 186 M, about 14 M less than Captain America.

Tommy CHere is how the 8 Mission Impossible films rank in terms of domestic grosses:
MI 1 (1996) 180 M
MI 2 (2000) 215 M
MI 3 (2006) 134 M
MI: Ghost Protocol (2011) 209 M
MI: Rogue Nation (2015) 195 M
MI: Fallout (2018) 220 M
MI: Dead Reckoning (2023) 172 M
MI: Final Reckoning (2025) 153 M
June 12, 2025, 11:33 AM
chesspiecefaceWith how much money those cost to produce, it's hard to imagine they'd keep making them without the approx. 3 billion they've tacked on in international box office, as well as TV rights, digital purchases, and for at least the first half of them, pretty good home media sales. I'm pretty sure they'll make at least one more of them. MI: The Double, Extra, Super Final Reckoning (No, Really!)

Tommy CTom Cruise said this is definitely his last one. He will be 63 this year.
June 13, 2025, 09:48 AM
David RMission Impossible 8 has made 450 M worldwide so far, but it cost at least 400 M (if not way more) to make.
The last one in 2023 grossed about 571 M worldwide.
June 14, 2025, 09:50 AM
Tommy CJust read an article on how Disney lost alot of money on Thunderbolts which only grossed 378 M worldwide despite very good reviews. They may now focus on big movies only like Avengers and Spider Man which are guaranteed to make money.

It's said the first person who will live to 150 years old has already been born. I believe Tom Cruise is that person. Expect at least 3 more of these.
