I have a hard time believing there are people (or groups of people) shelling out half a million dollars for a card that if released a handful of years ago would be worth what a few hundred at most?
Maybe I'm wrong and there are a former sports card guys who are buying Mickey Mouse, but it just seems unrealistic.

I guess it's just a matter of a Disney collector with money to burn jumping on something he had to have at that moment. It must fit perfectly in a space in his cabinet of curiosities.

After reading this article, I have no problem believing that there are people out there with far more money than sense
