Anyone else watching the madness going on over the Disney Genesis release from Topps online? 100 card set mixed with Marvel, Star Wars, Disney and Pixar characters. Everything is numbered to 99 or less. 1 box = 1 pack of 5 cards direct from Topps $100 10 boxes (case) $999.99 SOLD OUT! Flippers are already making bank. No autographs, no memorabilia, no sketches and no print plates. Just cards with numbers put on them. So far it looks like the usual numbering patterns so each card should have around 315 total production. 315 x 100 = 31,500 cards divided by 5 = 6300 packs X $100 = A great day for TOPPS!!!! Brace yourself PSA a tsunami of cash coming your way! ____________________ Just because it's rare doesn't mean it's valuable.

That set is definitely geared to hipsters - not people who've been collecting cards since the 70's or 80's or 90's.

some of these disney sets are fetching high prices. I collected the Topps 2017 disney princess set which most folks don't seem to know even existed. Although prices vary as usual some of the chase cards are going up in price all the time as folks slowly realise the set came out back then. ____________________ Come, it is time for you to keep your appointment with The Wicker Man.

It's clear there are still speculators in the entertainment card hobby -- this may be the greatest example of that. I don't even think these cards look good. If Topps can run out any random, garbage looking set with low numbers that sells out in hours why wouldn't they? If these speculators keep buying this junk that's what we are going to be left with. I see this in other areas of the hobby now too -- check out some breaks of Fleer Retro Looney Tunes -- at one point that would have been an interesting set, but now people are getting very excited over serial numbered cards of characters I've never heard of. The speculators love PMGs . . . doesn't seem to matter what the subject is. Sadly I am also seeing this in the new Christmas Story release from Cryptozoic. It seems that Dave and Adams has manipulated the pricing and availability to push up demand. Now people are talking about how it's a great investment. . . I thought these speculators would have left the market already, but they haven't and with Topps and Upper Deck catering to them I'm not sure what will happen. Are there enough Bugs Bunny collectors to make speculating on Looney Tunes PMGs worth it?

I'm starting to get the impression the hobby is not filling up with speculators but gambling addicts. ____________________ Just because it's rare doesn't mean it's valuable.

True, but in order for gambling to be worth it someone has to be paying big money for the 'rare' cards that get pulled. . . (Likely someone who identifies entertainment 'rookie' cards).
