It was a cameo appearance. Her only condition on doing the cameo is that she was to know nothing of the plot, as she is apparently an enthusiastic Trekkie.

Although he is not separately listed on that checklist above or on the RA website, there is a picture of a cool FB David Cronenberg signed card among the others shown on the website. That would be one of the best cards for people who don't watch this show.
