Thanks for the examples, John. I guess so many people collected cards back then and then so many of those cards have been passed down to interested people across the decades that prices remain reasonable to this day.

I have bought a few cards from the London Cigarette Card Company in the past and I noticed how surprisingly inexpensive many sets from well before the 60's still are and they aren't reprints.

Here in the UK LCCC was created in 1927 and I believe that they were one of the first organisations to be established in card collecting as they produced lists of cards that were available for sale, by 1929 such lists had evolved into a catalogue. They were not the only people providing such listings but they were in the forefront of it. The 1930's saw the origin of card collecting clubs and the first magazine about cards which became more formal later on. Card collecting in the US I have no real knowledge of other than Mr Burdick although others must have been involved.
