Dose the rareness or percieved value of a card have any revelence to the cost of grading it

Depends on the grading company.

PSA has pricing tiers based on the value of the GRADED card. So if they grade it high and the value is into the next tier, they send you a bill.

Some of the other companies just charge for the service. You have to do your homework.

IMO the value based pricing is a conflict of interest since they make more money if it grades high and is "worth more." They've incentivized higher grades for their own best interests.

Recently watched a video where 1000 graded cards were sold for $8 a piece.

The collection protection industry has created cards that will last in top condition for forever all while generating an obscene profit I might add.

I thought it cost more than $8 each to grade cards.

The whole thing is strange to me. Tiered pricing based on graded value is an obvious conflict of interest.

I understand grading for expensive cards -- that eliminates most surprises when buying online. I also understand grading to help make sure a card is authentic -- although 'help' is the key word there as I have seen enough questionable cards graded that I don't trust grading companies either.

This is the part that mystifies me .
Base cards being graded as this has to cost the seller something unless the seller has got a great deal.
Really how long would it take to fill a graded base set of cards through E Bay possibly never.
And are graded base cards going to fetch $8 @
