Over the past few months i have been trying to put together a set of Marvel Cinema cards from Topps UK.

It was a 32 card promo set numbered R1 - R32 which came in boxes of Cheesestrings at the Supermarket. You would buy the product but never know what cards you were going to get.

I slowly put the set together picking up one card here and there and buying a few on ebay until i finally completed the set.

The joy of finally getting the last card needed and completing the set as opposed to just buying the complete set is something that seems to have been totally lost from the hobby these days and the hobby is all the worse for it.

I really enjoyed doing this and shall look for further sets to attempt. Us oldies must keep the flag flying for old style collecting before it disappears completly. Thumb Up

I think maybe the cards were just an excuse for you to eat a lot of Cheesestrings. Big Grin

Seriously, building sets one card at a time stopped when 1. a base set came out of every box and 2. the total cost of buying individual cards became considerably higher than just buying an already constructed whole set. The same thing is true for collectors going after parallel sets these days. It's not just easier to buy the whole, it's cheaper.

However limited cards available in food products are a throwback and are fun to collect, so congratulations on your set. Thumb Up

Congrats Wolfie, I have put together a few sets this way. Still working on the Bond retro sets from Rittenhouse, some old sets like Charlie's Angels, and its always satisfying to get closer to your goal.
