DOes anyone know in what month of 1991 this set was released? I have all but two of the possible signed cards signed in my collection and those two people died in October of 1991. If the set was out before October, I need to look for those two cards signed. Otherwie m y set is complete.

I couldn't find an exact date, but the set is listed in some places as 1991/1992. I wasn't collecting them at the time, but the set was a favorite for older autograph collectors.

Over the years I have seen many of those cards signed and even bought about 15 of them off of one guy's books. The majority were personalized to that man and all seemed to be from mail requests.

I know there were 250 cards in the set, plus an additional 7 that were corrected cards. Since 1991 a good portion of those celebrities have passed away. There were no certified autographs in the set that I know of, just whatever got signed later.

So what do you mean by all but two of the possible signed cads? You have 248 cards autographed? That alone would be an enormous accomplishment, especially since so many of the ones you have must now be deceased. Who are you missing?

Yeah, that's terrific! Let's see some of 'em, if you can.

(I remember Bela "Dracula" Lugosi being in that set, though. No way for him to have signed.)

I took him to mean that of all of the people who were in the set and who were alive in 1991, he has all of them signed but two. (and I'd be interested in knowing what the list of people is)

That makes sense. He did say all "possible" signed cards.

Yeah, my fault, I read that wrong. However the full checklist can be found on Jeff Allender's site. You would have to check the names individually, but the majority were alive at the time. So the number of possible signers has to be 150 and better.

Today, after another 26 years later, most of them have passed away. Without looking, I think the only 3 living signers I have are Vickie Carr, Martin Sheen and Shirley MacClaine. The other dozen or so are all deceased.

Many of the signed cards can still be found you-know-where and the prices are very reasonable because of the risk. You have to figure that most of them were mailed to the celebrities, so you have to be able to tell the genuine autographs from the stamps, and the ghosts, and the out and out fakes. There are going to be many fake signatures on these cards. Frown

That's why I don't mind the inscriptions to people on these types of items. It is not a guarantee by any means, but forgers usually don't personalize because it makes the item less desirable. It's not a rule, just a general tip. Smile

True on these. Personalizations are a fairly reliable authenticator. There were a couple of nice Debbie Reynolds signed Walk of Fame cards that were up for a bargain price until the day she died that I was just about certain were real. I never went in for either of them though as we were lucky to meet her, get a picture with her, and an autograph from her at her short-lived Vegas casino in the late 90's. Thanks to Star Wars cards, I have autographs of her daughter and granddaughter, too. (Hopefully Billie Lourd will go on to have a nice career, too.)

So that's like 75 living names left out of 250 possible cards. The only mistake I see is Greer Garson, who is definitely dead for a long time. For the rest, most are in their 80s and 90s, but still alive,

So that puts 175 cards at deceased, a few already dead when the cards were made in 1991/1992. But if you count all possible signers from release, then this member has to have a lot of signed cards and a lot are now dead.
