This dealer has been a jerk to me several times on another forum for no apparent reason.<BR><BR>He now has a sketch for sale on eBay I'd like to add to my collection, but I haven't been able to bring myself to buying from him.<BR><BR>Should I buy from him and add to my collection, or not on principle that you shouldn't support people who treat you poorly? <BR><BR>I've even thought about reaching out to an actual friendly dealer like Ed and seeing if he'd buy the card and ship it to me -- for an added fee of course. I voted yes. If I really wanted the card and the price was good, I would buy it no matter what and tell myself that I got one over on him/her by getting such a good deal, regardless if that's actually true or not.

I actually had a seller on there who was incredibly rude to me also (on eBay), but I still bought from them since I really wanted the card and the price was fair. Now there is also a seller I encounter at shows who I've found to be incredibly rude and disrespectful to me who I will not buy from anymore. But that's not because I refuse to give him any business, it's more that his cards were overpriced to begin with, so it became very easy for me to walk away. It all comes down to the price of the card to me, and whether or not I feel like I'm getting a good deal. Anything else I can tolerate or ignore.

I would not give them my money, I don't care how much I wanted the card, it's not worth it to me to support someone like that. Nope, wouldn't do it.

There have been things in the past that I have passed on (great items, great price, etc etc) but because of certain things that the seller either said or supported or whatever, I have passed on the items. For example, I refuse to purchase from OC Celebrity Marketing because Lance, the owner, is a total **** and is totally out of line how he treats customers and potential customers. They've had things exclusively that I really wanted, but sorry material things are not worth compromising certain things to me.

So, long answer to your question, no I would not give him my money. If someone treats me badly, nope. I am not going to contribute to their mortgage or man cave or whatever. Treat me nice/right, however, and I will support you big time.

That's a tough one but I voted "yes" as well. Yeah, you could pass on the card because he's rude and a lot of people would do that but it boils down to whether you really want the card. People can have bad days but you said this dealer has been rude to you on another forum many times before so I wonder if he is mistaking you for someone else. If the card is too good of a deal and near-nonexistent elsewhere, make the deal and feel good that it ended in your favor as Logan said.

There was a card dealer I used to see at collectibles shows. He was more weird than rude. He actually raised the price of a card when I picked it out and not because he realized he forgot to reprice it before the show. He actually repriced it after he saw that I wanted it, thinking it was underpriced. It went from $3 to $5. At the time that was about the going rate of the card (a Marvel Staff promo card, one of the tan ones which seem harder to find) so I still bought it. He is otherwise kind of squirrely but tries to be personable and has even asked me to help him value a collection. I haven't seen him since and then COVID shut down the show and I haven't been to it since it started up again a few months ago.

I voted No. Of course, it depends how rude the dealer was or what he did, but this hobby is filled with friendly dealers, I feel they deserve my business.

I voted no because I done exactly that, stopped buying from them.

It’s really not that hard to be nice to someone, even if you disagree on another forum. Unless you REALLY need this card, I’d skip it.

Interesting responses and a lot to think about.

Ultimately I have removed the card from my watch list.

is this not a case of cutting off your nose to spite your face?

Years after this dealer has ceased to exist and you have forgotten him and his comments you would still be enjoying the sketch card you have.

Your not wrong, but there are a lot of sketch cards -- I don't need another one.

Perhaps if this was a grail I'd feel differently.

I'd say in nearly all circumstances it would be a 'no' because I wouldn't want to line pockets of someone I didn't like, someone who seemingly goes out of their way to drive away business and my custom. However, in some scenarios I think I would have to separate the item from the seller if I really wanted something, so I voted 'yes'.

If it were a 1/1 sketch, and I really wanted it, I'd be out of other options.
Or if I'd been looking for something for AGES.
Or if the price was a steal.
Or it was a fantastic example of a signature.

I'd feel a bit hyprocritical buying from such a seller but in the grand scheme of things does it really matter if I ultimately got want I wanted out of the situation? And besides, if they are an ***hat to you, they likely are to others, and I do believe that what goes around comes around.

I would totally understand anyone giving the seller described a swerve though if they're as charming as you say.

I used to patronize a dealer in my area but have pretty much cut off all contact because he’s turned into an aggressive panhandler type trying the hard sell on stuff I don’t want and making insulting comments if I acquire something rare or unique because he doesn’t have it. He has never had anything I want bad enough to want to conduct future business with him. I know he behaves differently in front of his big money customers.
