Best Bond Deal Ever

A customer of mine who's a regular on here recently scored the best deal ever on a case of unsorted singles for James Bond Archives 2015.(nearly all the chase cards has been removed)
He bought the whole case for 99p plus £6.50 GBP postage (approx US$13.00)
The most troubling thing is when the seller takes off the fees he actually paid to sell them.
So how much is a base set worth now?
Even including postage the 14 sets he got work out at a little over 50p (80c) The cards are gorgeous but it seems no one cares any more.
I'll let him step forward or remain anonymous if he can't handle the fame.

For some reason, the price of the base QoS set in this product seems to be driving everyone crazy. This is the third active thread where I have read comments about the cards being totally worthless, even though it's a pretty nice set to me.

Modern product base sets that can be compiled in one box are not worth that much when sold as a complete unit. That should come as no surprise to anyone. I don't know why the Bond 2015 Archive set is being dumped so early, for so little by dealers, but maybe the other three retro sets and two gold sets in the product have something to do with it.

It is a short sighted mistake to dump quality base sets like this.

I sent some of the sets out to Bond collectors and they loved them, but the release in general is marketed to a few hundred collectors, and they have produced about 10,000 sets. How do you clear 9000 sets worth of cards?

Would be interesting to know just how many active collectors there really are (how many chase master sets, how many collect certain styles of autos or props etc).

10,000 sets does sound A LOT but with hundreds of thousands of Bond fans the world over, I do wonder how many might enjoy a set of cards for a couple of quid, if only they knew such things existed.

The QoS base set is 10,000, the retro sets are only 4 cards per box of each. If the UK fans alone can support set after set of Dr. Who, I don't know how the Bond cards have only a few hundred collectors, not even talking about us Yanks. The production run is larger than a lot of recent titles, but this is a franchise title with 4 movies covered in it.

My fear is that card companies will think that since the easily completed base sets are getting such disrespect, they may as well make products without them. Come out like Buffy, with a 9 sticker set and an autograph or sketch and that's your box. Or go the other way and make a base set so large that only case breakers can put it together. Name your poison? Wink

The Dr Who cards are available at £1 or less per pack and are in every store in the land where they can be purchased by kids with their pocket money.
The Bond cards are only available in specialist comic shops ( if at all ) and are more like £4 per pack. If I wanted a Bond box and binder, even assuming I knew one existed, my local store would charge me well over £100 for them.

Put that up against the Dr Who binder for £5 and £1 per pack and I think that answers your question.

I think it does. Big Grin

But here's another one. How come the Dr. Who sets can be made to sell for so little?

Probably few hits, but they still have to be licensed and I do believe I have heard of at least some autographs.

The cards in the UK are designed with young collectors in mind for pocket money prices, have a browse of Topps UK site and you'll see it is a totally different approach to the very expensive US market.
