Got the latest June/July 2024 issue in the mail today. For some reason it seemed pretty heavy, although it has the same 72 pages. Comparison to the last issue noted it was just slightly taller. Pictures seemed a little bigger. Don't know if it's my perception or a little printing tweak. Doctor Who is on the cover and inside. A nice article on the new Pop Century with plenty of photos. The Top Ten list is on Sets of the 1980's, none of which I have. The 2 promos I got were "The Slasher Nurse Promo 1 from RRParksCards and "Craniacs Series 1" P2 of 3. Finally, "Game of Thrones Art and Images 2023" has hit the price guide. Now I can see how much money I lost.

It will be interesting to see when my copy arrives. I received yesterday from Beckett a reminder that my subscription needs to be renewed and I should fill in the form enclosed for which I would receive a discount. Needless to say I renewed but on-line so I have no idea if a discount was applied. The website states it takes 25 days to process, whereas the renewal letter states that I have to renew by the 7th June. ____________________

I was surprised to find this issue already at a local B&N when I stopped in on May 31 and it appears it had been on the shelves at least a few days already. It's usually more of a 3-4 week wait after I see someone open a thread on the latest issue. I liked the editorial on "Planet of the Apes" but let's remember apes aren't monkeys. They are about as different as dogs are from cats. I do agree that "Battle for the Planet of the Apes" was the weakest in the series, though as I understood it, it did set up a future as seen in the first two movies. At the end the Lawgiver wept because he foresaw death for everyone because apes and humans are naturally just too power-hungry and violent to survive for too long. I didn't even know about the "Strongman" card. Wow, what a final price! I don't have many cards from the 30's - just a couple of Peeps into Prehistoric Times cards. I had drifted away from collecting cards by the early 80's so I had only a partial set of the Empire Strikes Back cards by Topps. I remember thinking the cards didn't look as good as the ones for the first movie. Maybe they should have stuck with the same design? I haven't gone after any of the other ones in the Top 10 since getting back into cards in the mid-90's. It was great to read that article about the Nu Card Dinosaurs set. I have a near-set of those. About 25 years ago, I bought an unopened pack, opened it, and was lucky to get cards I didn't already have. They were in nice condition as well and I did keep the wrapper. Back then, unopened packs were going for about $30. I see people trying to get around $100 now. I don't have an "S" card but I'll be happy just finishing a base set. As said in the article, I have read elsewhere that there might have been only 10 of each "S" card printed they might have been as rarely inserted as 1 per 10 cases. Something not in the article (and we couldn't expect anyone to squeeze even a summary of all the info/interesting comments about this set), is a review of the various attempts to identify all the original artists of the card fronts. Many are obviously the work of legendary paloeartists, Charles R. Knight and Zdenek Burian. There are some mispellings of the scientific names and one card, #58, has a misidentified animal with an additional error. The card is titled, "Mischelkolk," but that is actually a mispelling of the sequence of rock layers, the Muschelkalk, in which the animal's remains have been found. The animal appears to be a Nothosaurus or a relative of it. It was interesting to read about Jason Brower who started working at Topps in the Vault and became a sketch artist for the company the same week. Great issue!

You're welcome. I always read the whole issue - even the articles/news items about stuff I don't collect. I see I forgot to mention that the Pop Century article was interesting too. There are a number of autograph card collectors on this board. I have just a few, although if I really checked, I might have 10-15 or more just from what I got in the small number of boxes bought over the past 10-12 years and a few isolated purchases (William Stout, Bernie Kopell). Anyway, autograph card collecting has become a big thing. Like promo collecting, you can do it so many ways and I see people getting creative (collecting autographs from various sources representing the cast of a separate movie/TV show). If I were into autographs, I would want just the legible signatures. Oh, and thinking about other "mouse" cards (the sidebar within the article on Mickey Mouse on cards, I came up with Stuart Little which spawned some promo cards from Land o Frost and Precious String Cheese products. Hero Factory created a promo for a planned regular set but the regular set never came. There were a few somewhat obscure Tom & Jerry promos too (Kellogg's/UK, Skip's Snacks/UK).

Here are 2 stickers and a card from the 32-card Tom & Jerry Sticker Set (Turner Entertainment Company/Kellogg Company, 1998). There are 3 different subsets: 8 glow-in-the-dark "mousehole" stickers, 8 "splat" stickers and 16 puzzle cards. They were inserted 1 mousehole sticker, 1 splat sticker, and 2 puzzle cards per various Kellogg's cereals in the U.K. The mousehole stickers measure 3 x 4 1/8 inches. The splat stickers and puzzle cards are 2 x 3 inches.

Here's the first set of "Redwall" cards released to promote the first seven Redwall novels by Brian Jacques. The stories are set on an Earth without humans but with talking animals including mice.

And let's not forget those "An American Tail: Fievel Goes West" cards. I don't seem to have any images of cards from the set and couldn't find any cards in my collection to scan.
