REFUNDS FOR SUBSCRIPTION

FRANK AMICOREFUNDS FOR SUBSCRIPTION
I called to see if they will be issuing refunds since the magazine is no longer being published and I was told they are still deciding this. I do not want a digital subscription since my main reason for getting issues were the promos. I have 2 years left on my subscription since I had faith that this publication would continue. I don't think that this was a last-minute decision

They should have had this in order straight away. They knew they were cancelling the magazine and people had pre-paid.

GrahamI emailed Beckett on 18th November with this...
Could you tell me if you have any information about a refund for unfulfilled issues on my subscription now that the magazine will no longer be published?
They replied yesterday with this...
To honor the remaining value of your subscription, Beckett is offering double the months of access to the Non-Sport Update Online Price Guide (Market Data Report + OPG Combo). This digital resource provides access to more than 3.1 million searchable non-sport cards, including pricing for over 1.5 million cards—nearly 400 times more coverage than the print magazine. It is available via both the website and mobile app.
I replied...
Thank you for your reply.
I would like to formally reject your offer of digital access to the price guide as this was not what I subscribed to or wanted. Please refund all outstanding subscription and postage payments.
Let's see where it goes from here.

With the reply I got, it really feels like they were playing the long game with the bait & switch in order not to part with any cash that isn't theirs.

wolfienormally when a company goes bust you can forget getting your money back but in this case ( as i understand it ) Becket owns the magazine and Becket have not gone bust so there should be no problem giving people a refund of money outstanding.

barobehereNot with Beckett but with another company when one of their publications was cancelled and I called about a refund they gave me the option of getting another magazine they published, never the option for my money back. I took the other subscription.

For 10 years, the topkicks at Beckett Media treated NSU, the staff, the writers and the zine's readership as red-headed step-children. It was purchased from the Toser family because they're sharks. It is hell-bent on eliminating competition or at least making their perceived rivals as uncomfortable as possible.
Skeptical? Then explain Beckett's plunging in on the emerging 1990s graded sportscard business of PSA, SGC and others. You could argue the Tosers, at least, got their money. But at what cost?
You cannot tell me that any Beckett Media exec carried a clue as to what this sub-industry of the trading card field is all about. The mag did not make money because no one knew how to sell that damned publication. How many adverts appeared in any one issue? Three? Beckett published NSU by rote only.
I harbor my own animus toward Beckett as a company, anyway, but will not waste keystrokes composing bile on an executive clique arrogant enough to chloroform NSU. They did us no favors.
“They can go p*ss up a rope.” And no form of diplomatic language from anyone can change my opinion.

GrahamRemember, for subscribers abroad, it's not only the magazine cash they owe us, but the not so small amount of postage as well.

FRANK AMICOI called Beckett again and I was told they have no plans on issuing refunds for NSU subscriptions. They said they gave an option and that is all they are giving. I will be contacting my local news consumer division about this situation and hope that they will motivate them to change their minds. I hope all of you will take this kind of action as well or possibly file a class action lawsuit against them.

They cancelled, we didn't.
Reading the response that Frank got, Beckett
may have a case for a substitute for the magazine, but it is theft to keep the postage as well. That has no bearing on the production (or cancellation) of the magazine.

hammerIt is very bad, they SHOULD/MUST refund subscriptions. I urge any uk subscribers to contact their credit card/bank and ask for a charge back. It might work

Ted Dastick Jr.Emails I'm sending to them are coming back as undeliverable. So I filled out their webform, I guess we'll see what happens.

I think I missed this "option" as I do not recall getting anything from Beckett about the cancellation, other than the magazine itself. Technically, Beckett has a liability on its accounting records for the paid but not delivered subscriptions, which will need to be liquidated somehow. I am guessing that subscription revenues for the other magazines it produces will easily eat up that liability, so there will likely be no ramifications for this action.

hammerNo one has had anything from Beckett about the cancellation of the magazine - the very least is they should have written to all Subscribers explaining the decision and offering SOMETHING. The fact they haven't done anything is beyond contempt.
