I've had the most luck with trading cards at the show when I've connected with specific people in advance based upon our posted need/want lists. There might be people who trade in general; but, I am not sure where/when that happens.

In the past, most vendors have taken credit cards or worked with other vendors who do. But, cash is always appreciated. I've also written checks in the past; but, that depends on the dealer.

I've been coming for years and have always had a great time. I hope you do as well! If there is a Card Talk meeting, I'd definitely recommend attending that. Harris will let us know about that when he knows.

Been awhile, but I'm sure most things stay the same. This is general and not about Philly, don't know it.

Bring cash to shows and ask dealers to give you discounts for cash if you think the price can go lower. They can only say No.

If you are looking for something specific and in high demand go early on the first day, because a hot item will be gone fast. If you have no particular item in mind and just want good deals, go on the last day in the last couple of hours. Dealers that haven't done well or don't want to pack a lot of stuff up to haul back start dumping prices that they were firm on yesterday. They also become more willing to trade. I have often gone to scout things in the middle of a show and come back in the last hour to see what's left. Believe me it works, but you have to be willing to miss some items you didn't pick up sooner.

Trading and selling of your own cards is very iffy and I agree with Deena, you should have contact with people or approval before you start whipping out your cards. I've been to shows that will throw you out for that or you have to go out to the parking lot if you want to interest another collector, like a scalper does. You can't blame a show promoter or dealer who are doing business and don't want someone who hasn't paid in to make money.

Having said that, some dealers will look at your cards and don't mind trading or even buying if they like your price. So it's not universal and you have to know them or ask politely if you don't. Do not display to other collectors while they are looking at tables or someone will surely show you the door.
