About 6 months ago, I made a bulk purchase on Disney Treasures III Bobble Head gift packs (each of which came with four packs of cards as with the 2 earlier series.) I believe these were most likely unsold returns from retails chains like Target, Anco, Walmart, etc.

I got approx. 650 gift sets or so which is about 2,600 packs when all was said and done. That's equivalent to roughly 110 of the standard 24 pack boxes. Since the odds are the same from all packs, I should have got about 110 of the 2 Film Frame cards and about 28 of the Patch Cards. I did slightly better, netting about 125 Two-Frame Cards (but only 3 complete sets of 10) and 30 Patch Cards (with one complete set and 9 of 10 towards another).

As far as the Silly Symphonies 9 card set, I did not receive a single #6, same as was the case with all of the 24 pack boxes I bought (approx 30) previous to the bulk 4-pack puchase. It seems card #6 was not inserted in packs, however I pulled at least two #9's for every other card in the set, leading me to believe the #9 card appeared on the original uncut sheets twice, the second one possibly erroneously replacing the #6. You can see why Upper Deck would not have wanted to publicize this, as it could hurt their license with Disney, who are notorious stickler for detail.
I know for a time they insisted the #6 WAS in the packs at the same ration as all of the others, but later I heard they offered a quiet promotion on their website allowing eagle-eyed collector's to send in for on eof the #6's, at last admitting their error, if only at the decibel of a whisper.

Going back to the 2 frame cards, I could only make 3 sets of 10 (despite having enough cards to theoretically make 12 sets) because the "Rescuers" card was only found 3 times in that massive lot of 120+ film cards. It was either shortprinted or I just had some bad luck. On the other hand, the 2 frame cards for Aladdin, Bambi, Peter Pan, and Nightmare Before Christmas seem pretty common and were possibly double-printed.

(I dunno, maybe Disney had more of those particular film prints to cut up for insertion in to the cards? Regardless, a lucky break for me since I now have an AWESOME collection of the Nightmare Before Christmas Film Cards, with film frames featuring virutally every character from the Tim Burton classic, and one of my all-time favorites movies!) Elephant

As far as the beautifully designed Patch/Film Cards go, those seem to be pretty evenly packed in my now considerable experience with this product. (So my theory on that is that the Patch cards were produced in equal numbers before the 2 frame cards were made. Only once the patch cards were completed, did the company proceed to the 2 frame cards at which time some may have been short-printed due to a lack of remaining film-cel supplies.)

As far as the regular base sets and Winnie The Pooh Filmography sets go, I made a ton of those before I tired of doing so, so I have a couple of those multi-row boxes of those sitting unsorted waiting for a future day. It seems to be almost certain the base card #242 (Pumbaa from Lion King) was double printed as I have a huge stack of those as doubles (hundred-bles?)

In conclusion, while I do love these cards, I wasn't looking for this many for my collection, but I was hoping for a Sketch Card, and I knew that with the great price I got on the cards (ended up being about $10 per 24 pack box, had I bought them that way) and my ability to sell/trade all the extra Reel Piece Film Cards (which I've now mostly done), this was a virtually risk-free chance at pulling a sketch card.

So did I? Nope, which only confirms what pretty much any one who has stuck with this endless post full well knows: the Sketch Cards are pretty darn tough to find! In the final analysis, if you didn't get one from your boxes (or even cases!), don't feel too bad, as you are definitely not alone.

But if you were one of the lucky few, enjoy the card and the fact that you beat some pretty long odds! Metal

(NOTE: After being shut out from all three "regular" Disney Treasures sets, I did finally get a sketch card from the Disney Holiday Treasures series, but buyer beware if purchasing those cards which were sold only in Holiday Gift Sets with 2 mini-bobble heads and Five Packs (of 5 cards each).

The reason for my warning is that what I actually pulled that happy day was not a sketch card but a redemption card which was due to expire in Septemer 2007. I pulled it almost a year before the expiration date, but it took Upper Deck a good 4 months to redeem and that was only after continual prodding on my part for them to do so. (They were moving their base of operations from San Diego to Las Vegas at that time)

At any rate I can't imagine, based on that experience, that they would honor an expired redemption card like Inkworks, for instance, has been known to do. Now, I can't be sure all of the sketch cards in Disney Holiday Treasures required the redemption card, but mine did, and that card would now be expired, for sure. Who knows, some sketches may well have been inserted in packs as perhaps only a few "tardy" artists forced the use of redemption cards, but do keep that in mind when buying the gift sets if you're main reason for doing so is the hope of finding one of the elusive sketches!

Good luck everyone, and keep your box breaks coming!

Do you still have some cards for trade I can use a few. As for the Silly Symphonies 9 #6 there was a deal going on where you can mail any other Silly Symphonies card and UD would send you one. Contact them they may still have some.

I had a pack pulled Holiday Treasures sketch. So some can still be found in packs.

Hi Luzndave
I'll look into contacting Upper Deck for one of those Silly Symphonies #6.
I do have lots of cel cards left and am trading. Email me with what you need.
Best wishes
Rudy
