One of my favorite modern era non-sports sets and thought I’d share a complete rundown of the promotional material for this Marvel Masterpieces set (Upper Deck, 2016)

Note the year, a full 2 years before the set release- this set took a long time to paint…years (so worth it for Joe Jusko’s art).

Upper Deck epack was in its infancy around the time and promoted it with this set



…The Non-Sport Update that never was, which is a total bummer. Man do I wish we got this issue. It was supposed to be Vol 26, #5 in 2015.

I assume the delayed set factored into removing the cover…there is no NSU cover featuring 2016MM..missed opportunity for such a major set. The above is definitely the meta-master set item: magazine ad for another magazine about the set…which doesn’t even exist! (D’oh)

The NSU that did have the Hulk promo above (back in 2014) turned out to be one of the absolute hardest issues to find sealed. I collect every Masterpieces promo in its original sealed magazine state, and let’s just say this was a nightmare to track down. Most opened for the Hulk promo I imagine. And the print run being a 2014 mag probably wasnt huge to start with.

Finally, a promo I sent in to a Jusko CGC private signing. In retrospect wish I did both the promos.
