Before this year, the highest I ever saw a 1993 Marvel sample go for was about $ 100, and that was on a Spider-Man 2099 foil

Yeah, I remember when I bought the Vulture 2099 sample about 20 years ago, I bought "high" at $15.

A Fearmaster sample without the sticker on the back sold on May 24 for $46.99. It probably would have sold for more if it had "sample" in the title or description. Here's the link which will be active for only a couple of more weeks:

I never heard about a print run on those. It appears only some dealers got them - perhaps just one per dealer. I saw just one locally and you'd see them occasionally at shows. For a while, it was weird to see the blank back ones, because for a while, I saw only the ones with the sticker.

It has always been assumed that there are sample foil versions, with the stickers on the backs, for each of the 9 chase cards in the set.

Over the past 25 years plus, I have only come across 8 different ones: Spider-Man 2099, Doom 2099, Specialist, Fearmaster, Tiger Wylde, Dethstryk, Ravage 2099, and Vulture 2099.

I only saw the Spider-Man for the first time within the past 3 or 4 years on ebay. The above 8 definitely exist.

I have consulted with a hardcore Marvel collector, and neither he nor I have ever seen one with the sticker for Punisher 2099. Does it exist ?

As for the blank backed ones, I have seen uncut sheets of the 9 on ebay, with the blank backs (and no stickers) so perhaps someone cut them up ? Maybe or maybe not.

A Tiger Wylde also sold for the "Best Offer." The Seller was asking $ 199.00

Of the 9 sample foils in this set, like others, I have seen them all aside from the Punisher 2099 one

Woof, the 2099 comics weren't quite as lackluster as the ones from the Marvel's 1986 "New Universe" misfire, but they were pretty bad. (Coincidentally, the same writer, Peter David, wrote the Spidey 2099 series and later issues of "Justice" for the New Universe, hitting the high water mark in both lines).

The only cards in recent memory with worse characters on them to sell for this kind of money are those Gary Vee monstrosities from ZeroCool.

Someone else has up for sale a slabbed, graded sample foil of Ravage 2099 with an asking price of $1500 !

I remember back in the 1990s and 2000s, when you could get most of these for $ 10.

A bunch of these have sold recently on Ebay:

Fearmaster. $ 50.00

Vulture. One sold for $ 50, another for $ 113.50

Spider-Man. Best offer accepted. $ 400.00 ?

Specialist. 3 sold for Best offer accepted. Two listed for $ 300, one for $ 389.00

Despite all of these sales, 30 years later, I have yet to see a Punisher 2099 show up !

BOTH sold for a few hundred dollars each

I never saw these over the past 30 years, and now suddenly within the past 10 months, 3 appeared for sale.
