This is for those of you who are trying to complete the X-Men watch card set of 6 cards. The bad news is that there are actually 2 different 6 card sets. The first set consists of 6 regular size cards that I believe were included in boxes that were marked with a small gold sticker as being X of 5000 numbered boxes. There are also Artists Proof boxes with the same small gold sticker that states AP X of 150 numbered boxes (The 3 boxes that I have all show AP057 of 150 and the watches are also marked that same way on their backs. The only other difference is that the card in each AP box is approximately 1/4 inch taller and 1/4 inch wider than the regular sized cards. Size is the only difference as both fronts and backs are identical in both sets.

Albert, a Hulk sold yesterday on ebay for $12.99 plus shipping. I just saw it. No, I was not the winner. That is one of the 2 that I do not have. I wonder if it was legit or did someone just clip the chase card ?

Such are the vagaries of promo card collecting. Go figure?
Now, as far as whether it was authentic, the chase cards sell for between $50 and $60 each. Why cut them?

I just found a completed listing for an uncut sheet of the cards. According to the seller, the production of the 6 watches was originally planned to be 5000 units each. However, Marvel sued the company for some reason and it ended up going bankrupt. According to the seller, the number of watches actually produced is considerably smaller, making them extremely rare.

The seller also said the cards were randomly inserted into the packages so you didn't know which card you were getting.

The sheet measures approximately 26 by 19 1/2 inches.

There is apparently a second one listed for sale by the seller. The first recently sold. So, either this is the same one, and the buyer didn't pay or they're sitting on a newly found stash of these.

If it's a newly unearthed batch, then buyer beware because, in both listings, the seller alleges that although they have been collecting Marvel cards for 30 years, this is the FIRST one they see. Well, if the first one did sell and the seller got paid, then, that statement in the current for sale listing would be false. If the seller is sitting on a quantity of these uncut sheets, then this would go a long way in explaining why the single cards have been so scarce.

Yeah, the description is exactly the same. I went for $2495 and now it's down to $899.99? It's a bit beat-up but it is rare. It's something to watch.

Terrapeak research says that one was sold for $900 in July. So it must have been best offer. Also, it's not supposed to list anything that went unpaid, take that for what it is worth.

Suspect the seller has a stack of these.

Well, the images and story behind the cards are VERY cool in my humble opinion.

Any chance of seeing images of the backs ?

I think the backs are shown on the top half of the sheet.

Man, I'd really like one of those Phoenix cards with art by Steranko for my Steranko collection, but it seems like it'd be cheaper to find the whole watch package that comes with it than just to buy the card itself.

There are some superb Hall of Fame level artists on this set, for sure: Dorman, the Kuberts, Bill Sienkiewicz, Ken Steacy, Steranko. I do wonder who drew the Cable card, though.

My guess for the Cable art is Rob Liefeld.

I doubt it's Rob. His signature would have been prominent.

These six card images were printed in issue #3 of the Marvel Masterpieces 2 comic (Iron Man by Julie Bell is on the cover).
