Star Wars Shop Holiday Cards (2008)
Has anyone been able to complete this 11 card set by Topps, released by the Star Wars Shop in late 2008 ? Cards were randomly sent with orders of various items, t-shirts, toys, etc., just tossed in the boxes, so frequently damaged.

You NEVER see singles of these on ebay anymore, especially the very hard to find Boba Fett card # 1, limited to 500.

Around 2010, I saw a complete set of 11 sell on ebay for about $ 550.00, and I never saw another set for sale.

I have all of the rare 1990s Star Wars promos, the Yoda, Vehicles refractors, and all of the rest, and yet I do not have ANY of these. Not even one single. Frown

Here are pictures.

I am still looking for these. Have not seen any singles in years.

Good thing that link has images of all 11 cards.

I got a decent number of them at the time, buying clearance-priced or else just cheaper items, such as calendars and action figures, specifically to get a card. I don't remember exactly what I have, but I know I didn't complete the set. I'm pretty sure I didn't get the rare #1 card. I do remember selling a couple of doubles way back when. I might have one or two more, and should probably list them.

The condition on them really will be hit and miss throughout the entire run, as they tended to bounce around in the shipping box with whatever your paid for item was.

I don't have these but I do have the Topps Star Wars Shop cards which came before these, circa 2005 to 2007 or so. I think there were maybe 10 of those. They were much easier to acquire as those came with specific items so you knew what card you were getting when you placed an order. With the 11 Holiday cards I believe that they were totally random.

I have a few of these to trade for other star wars shop cards I need. I don’t have any of the rare ones unfortunately……

Here's the 6 different ones I have.

I think I placed about 8-9 orders in all while the cards were available, just to get the cards. Since I only have 6, that means a couple of times, I got doubles (which I don't think I have anymore, sorry potential traders).

No card #1 unfortunately, which is the rare one, only 500 copies made. I did at least get #2 which is from the middle tier. The others shown are 6,8,9,10, and 11.

Usually, I'd order something like an action figure or a clearance-priced calendar or mini-bust, so I didn't have spend too much to get these, and the mini-bust orders actually came with a 2nd card that showed the mini-bust on it.
Of course by the time those went on clearance, most of the more popular ones had sold out, so I think the couple of cards I have from that earlier Star Wars Shop set are a stormtrooper and a TIE fighter pilot, or something similar.

Sure, I also double-checked my sales, and I had doubles of #2 and #10. I sold them both as singles about 10 years ago, and got around $25 for each, and somehow actually a little more for the number #10, which they made almost twice as many of (1,750 vs. 1,000 copies of the #2). I would suspect the #10 is still worth around that, but the #2 has probably accrued in value somewhat. That #1 card featuring Boba Fett and limited to only 500 is probably a couple of hundred bucks these days.

Of the possible 500 complete sets out there, I wonder how many currently exist as such

There is someone with PSA graded cards # 3, 5, 9, 10 and 11 on ebay now, asking about $ 375 to $ 450 each !

You never see these promos surface anymore.

I was just looking at completed Ebay auctions and one of the RARE Boba Fett card #1s sold on Jan 8 for $ 108.00. 13 bidders.

That was certainly a good price, as only 500 were made and you NEVER see the # 1 for sale. I don't think I have seen one on ebay over the past 15 years

There are 6 other numbers for this set on ebay now, asking price $ 75 to 99 each.

Again, you NEVER see these for sale. Maybe 1 or 2 will show up every 2-3 years.

I was not surprised that the card went for about $100. It would have gone for more (maybe double as said by Chesspeice) a couple of years ago but a 500 card print run isn't what it used to be with fewer diehard card collectors. I remember when a 1000 card print run was considered small and cards like that went for $25 and up. There are just so many "rare" Star Wars cards now from the past 30 years that many collectors, especially the newer ones, are focusing on particular new/recent ones that are considered hot.

Surprised to see 9 of the 11 promos on ebay now from various sellers. Asking price $ 75 to 100 each.

Notably, card # 1 is not one of the ones for sale.

I still have my 6 shown above, but haven't attempted to add to them.

Card # 10 (which you have) sold for $ 41. I still see available # 2-5, 7-9, and 11. I think that you are missing 4 of those.

It doesn't look like collectors are willing to pay $75-100 for these cards except for the rarest one. Forty bucks does seem like a reasonable price for the others but maybe that's the high end.

I could technically "trade" for them, which is to say sell a couple of Star Wars Galaxy Series 5 Princess Leia base cards and use the money to get the Holiday Special cards. The SWG5 Leia cards from only 15 years ago that feature her in the Jabba's dungeon costume have a couple of different ones that sell regularly for $75 and up as singles, ungraded, more than the cost of a full hobby box at the time, which was about $65. The 120 card base set with those two cards sell for $200 easy. There must be a good 20,000 of each of those Galaxy cards, so you'd think these truly limited and through-the-mail-only cards would sell for a little more than they do at this point.

It guess it has a lot to do with what's actually on a card, too. I was bummed to get only the one card with Boba Fett, since he is the very reason the cartoon is memorable, but I really like the card with Vader and R2. I'll probably just stick with the ones I have for now, but it's nice to have a shot at nearly finishing the set. Hmmm, maybe I should try to sell mine to them...

I see someone wants $3200 for a sealed box of SWG5. I also see a box of SWG2 at just over $200 after 7 bids with under 9 hours to go in the auction. Meanwhile, anyone could grab a box of that for $165 right now and even pay less shipping. It's what happens when you are too caught up in a particular auction.

I didn't know about the Leia cards going for so much. I didn't get a box of that.

Yeah, the cartoon with the appearance of Boba Fett was a big deal. My brothers and I saw the original telecast and someone loaned us a VHS copy several years later.

Yes, I would hang onto the cards you have. You might find at least a few of the other cards cheap somewhere. Some toy collectors don't really care about the cards.

A #9 sold for just $11.50 after two bids yesterday. I thought that was going to get more action. I had seen the auction but didn't get around to putting in a bid.

I am confused by this. Are you saying that there are single, base cards on the Star Wars Galaxy 5 set from 2010 that are selling for $ 75 ?

Or are you talking about something else ?
