Felix art promos
In this thread I will show most (maybe all?) of the promo cards for Reinhard "Felix" Horst's art which has been showcased in different forms (cards, art books, posters, pins, etc.).

Edition Quasimodo published three Felix trading card sets during the 1990's (Felix I, 36 cards; Felix II, 9 cards; Felix III, 14 cards) plus promos for those sets, show promos, and promos for other items using his artwork.

Felix is known for his retro pin-up style incorporating World War II, postwar, and futuristic elements.

You don't always see his cards for sale as his stuff tends to stay in private collections. Longtime collectors sometimes come across a promo not previously seen and they have chased a card another collector talked about only to find out the card was actually just a card-sized paper ad inserted in one of the factory sets. Even the artist himself doesn't have every card with his art on them but he has most of them.

Below you will see the 3-card promo set for the "The Erotic Illustrated Felix Trading Cards" boxed factory set (Edition Quasimodo, undated) which later became known also as "Felix 1." PCE2008 listed these cards under "Edition Quasimodo" but the German text on the backs refers to the first trading card set. This promo set shows 3 images from the 36-card set released in 1993 and has turned out to be perhaps the rarest Felix promo set just because of a smaller print run than was done for later sets. You can still find the cards for a reasonable price - maybe $10 total.

The title of the regular set is "The Erotic Illustrated Felix Trading Cards" but that hadn't been decided yet while the promos were planned and printed. In those planning stages, it was going to be a 35-card set but it ended up being a 36-card set with the 36th card being blank and intended to be sent back with $5 to the artist so he would add a sketch and return it - an early card set with a sketch card. At the time $5 covered his shipping the card back to you.

Also, though the word "erotic" is in the title, the art is more of a creative tease than what might be judged as "R" rated. It's certainly adult-oriented and suggestive with some female topless nudity but unlikely to offend most pin-up art collectors. You might still find an image online showing all the cards in the set.

Here is the 9-card promo set for the Felix II set (Edition Quasimodo, undated). It's actually titled, "Strange But Lovely Ladies," but many think of it also as "Felix II."

This promo set features the same 9 images as in the 9-card regular set which was released as a small boxed factory set. Someone might ask, "Why would a dealer or collector want the regular set if he already has all the images on the promo cards?" The main difference is that the promos were printed on white plastic stock while the regular set was printed on clear acetate - either way, they are nice-looking cards and collectors usually want both versions especially if they're that different. Also, included with the regular set were two random clear acetate promos for the "Toxic Babes" set plus a paper redemption slip for a sketch by Felix. Back then, if you sent it in with $5 to cover shipping/handling, you would get back a sketch based on one of his card images.

Here is the 14-card promo set for Felix III: Bad Girls & Good Guys" (Edition Quasimodo, 1996). Felix signed the fronts of card #1 and #4 of this set.

Here are two more "Felix 3: Bad Girls and Good Guys" promos (Edition Quasimodo, undated but probably 1996): Additional Promo Card 1 of 2 and Additional Promo Card 2 of 2. I think these two along with the 14-card promo set, plus two "Special Artist Cards" were sent together to dealers. About six years ago, I checked out a local collectibles shop I hadn't seen before and the owner had various Kitchen Sink and other boxed factory sets along with a sealed plastic pack of the above Felix 3 promos. He vaguely remembered that he got them like that.

You can still find those cards for reasonable prices: maybe $10-25 if you find them all together. You might have to pay around $3 per card if you find random singles.

Here are the two "Special Artist Cards" which are promos for Felix 3 that were sent to some dealers. They feature artwork not seen in the regular set:

Here is a card that promotes Felix III on one side and Felix IV: Girls Galore! on the other. It's undated but was likely released in late 1996 or early 1997. This is one of the hardest to find of the Felix promos. I don't have this one but Todd was able to send me the images below.

Here are the other two promos (Felix/Edition Quasimodo, 1996) for Felix IV: the Advance '97 promo card 1 of 2 and Advance '97 promo card 2 of 2. The set never came out and the promos became hard to find. In fact, one collector I know had promo 1 but not promo 2. I had promo 2 (got it at SDCC in '98 - a dealer had a special box of Felix promos and that one was signed/dated by Felix) but not promo 1. I still haven't seen one on Ebay but finally did get that card a couple of years ago from Felix himself. Always try finding the person/company that made the cards and sometimes you do and they still have cards - even from 30 years ago.

I think the Felix IV project ended up being an art book instead.

Here are some Felix promos that have the same front art as cards from Felix III but the backs promote shows, comic shops, and a shopping center in Germany. I had never seen these until a couple of years ago. There are said to be 16 or 18 different ones but I was able to get just these four - the only four even Felix still has.

Here's a card that promotes a number of products featuring Felix' art. It's undated but probably from 1996 or not long after.

Here's a card with Felix III art on the front promoting his publisher, Edition Quasimodo, on the back. This is another hard-to-find Felix promo.

This card promotes Felix' graphic design company. It's standard size but the back looks like a business card. It might be one of his older cards. It features artwork not seen in his card sets. Another harder to find promo but it might cost you just around $5 when you do track it down.
