Has anyone tried to collect these 2003 promos by Topps for LOTR Return of the King, only released in Japan ? I saw them on ebay when they first came out, but they were so tough to acquire and so I didn't bother. I still do not have them.

My understanding is that while they are called promos by some, they don't actually say the word on them, nor do they advertise the set. They just weren't in the packs. They are:


PR-1 Aragorn, Gandalf, Legolas, Theoden on horse back (came with folder)

PR-2 Aragorn, Frodo, Arwen, Gandalf, Sam and Gollum (box topper)

PR-3 Aragorn (send away; 750 issued)
PR-4 Legolas (send away; 750 issued)
PR-5 Frodo (send away; 750 issued)
PR-6 Merry & Pippin (send away; 750)
PR-7 Aragorn and cast (send away; 300)

PR-2 seems to be the easiest to find.

Has anyone ever tried to complete this set ? I have not. Seems like singles don't come up that often. I see only 3 on ebay now. Someone wants almost $ 200 for just a PR-7 !!!

Like you, I thought about getting them years ago but they were expensive then. I think I checked again to see what was available a year or two ago - just a couple of high-priced cards then too. I haven't gone after all the Lord of the Rings promos so I don't feel the urge to hunt these down either.
